Let's say you're #1 gun is unavailable...off to the smith getting work, having a part replaced or whatever the case may be. What is in your collection that you feel confident enough with to use in its stead?

My primary CCW is a Colt Officers model in hard chrome. #2 is a Kimber stainless compact. Essentially twins in size, caliber, function, controls, leather, etc. NO problem. #3 would be one of my 1911 full size ones. Got it covered.

My almost always gun is a Smith M649 in .38 Special.
If it was in the shop I'd go to a Smith M38 in .38 Special.
They have almost the same trigger feel, work the same way and use the same speedloaders/strips.
Unfortunately, they don't shoot the same ammo well. I'd have to go from 158 grain LSWHP to 125 grain semi jacketed loads.

Sig, KelTec, and Glock are interchangeable.

Kimber if need be, but it's heavy without proper leather.

Well heck---any other one I own---besides my 2 .22's.

Steyr M9---main carry piece.

Back-ups:

S&W 686P .357mag
S&W 629 Classic .44mag
Sig Pro 2340 .40

Any of those will do just fine in a pinch.

Number 1 gun is a Kimber Compact, Second is tied between my CZ P-01 and Sig P228 (228 needs new leather)

Hi there. When you say "to use" I assume you defend your life, right? When the 1911 is in the shop, the Glock 17 seems MORE than adequate. It loves those +P HPs, and holds a bunch of them! With night sights on top, very practical for that role.

That said, if you mean "to use" as in to enjoy shooting, I'd say any of my guns have one or more characteristics I enjoy at the range, and if I only had one to shoot I'd still have a big ol' grin on my face.

I follow the "rule of twos".

If 1911 #1 is out, then go to 1911 #2. If S&W 10MM #1 is out, then go to 10MM#2. I'm still working on the others.

Well, I can't carry legally in my state, but if I could right now my choice would be my Delta Elite. I don't really have a backup for it (since I can't carry) but I've been thinking of getting a CZ40B as another "normal" handgun that would be a bit more compact than the Delta.

I also want something to fit the BUG mini-gun role. Maybe a RAMI in .40 when it becomes available since it would use the same mags as the CZ40 in a pinch. Darn, need to get some more guns ;)

Also considered going the Glock route. I have a couple Glock standard capacity magazines for my G24 that I could use in a G23 or G27 but I haven't found any good deals on either of these guns and any additional high-capacity magazines would cost a fortune unless the AWB completely sunsets.

Right now my collection revolves around fun and home defense. I'm currently wearing the Delta, I have the M17S by the bed with a 30 round magazine of 55gr holowpoints ready to go. The FAL is at the foot of the bed and the shotgun is over the bed, but ammo for them isn't as handy as for the M17S.

Delta gets me to my primary, the M17S and anyone assisting in defense gets the shotgun and as a last resort the FAL (too much penetration to be really safe in my small neighborhood).

Assuming it is my house gun (H&K USP full size .40). . .

Backed up in the following order. . .

H&K USP .45 compact

CZ75B 9mm

Beretta 92G Elite II

Kimber Custom

and so on. . . they aren't listed in order of reliability, but in order of my trigger time.

If it were my carry gun, swap the two USPs.

Order of weapons listed according to prefrence.
1. Quality 1911
2. Glock 17,31 eiher is fine
3. Sig 226 in 9mm or 357 sig.
4. Beretta 92F
5. Hk USP in 45 acp.

If I couldn't get a Browning P35 I'd go with an Italian Beretta 92 without hesitation.

I own only one handgun, so actually I have no choice.
But let's say that there'd be no Glock 17Ls available, then I'd probably have bought a G34, or - if there were no Glocks - an HK USP9 Expert.

If no 1911's :what: , then I'd have to have a day long "shoot out" to decide between a Highpower and CZ.

If 45 only, CZ single action.
