IL members: gun shops in McHenry county and northern IL?

I received an email today from a vet who's looking to utilize the vocational training offer the VA provides. From what I gather, he's looking to become a gunsmith, and he was asking about gun shops in McHenry county, IL, as well as other shops in the northern part of the state.

He's also looking for recommendations on good gunsmithing schools (I told him to check out the one in Colorado).

Of course, if there's any good shops up in that part of the state, I'll likely call them to get them on my site.

Until 5 years ago, I used to live in McHenry County in the People's Republic of Illinois.

Unless things have changed, the only gunshop actually IN McHenry County is in the town of McHenry, on the north side of Rt 176, east of the river. I don't remember the name of the place, tho.

The next nearest places are either Gander Mountain, up across the Wisconsin border in Wilmot, Wisc., or GAT Guns, down in West Dundee, Ill.

There are a couple of gun shops down in the Elgin, IL, area, too, but I am not sure of their status.

There are GAT and R Guns for sure. I believe there is a shop that is in McHenry (the town) or Crystal Lake, but I forgot the name and which of the two towns it was in.
