I'm looking to pick up a S&W 642 or maybe a 442 sometime soon, and was wondering what shops in Northern Virginia would have the best deal.

As it is a pretty common gun I'm not too concerned about selection, just price.

Any good (or bad) experiences with shops in this area?

Thanks.

There is a nice/large shop over in Leesburg (can't recall the name now). It's worth stopping into! I have a bud who has bought a LOT of stuff there over the years, he knows his stuff so I'm sure the prices were pretty good.

Google maps is great for this stuff. If you go to there site then click the find business button they'll give you most of the phone book listed guys. I love it for when I travel!

It's been a few years since I moved away, but at the time Old Town Armory was the most expensive, Gilberts Small Arms in Springfield was OK, and Clark Bros. in Warranton was generally cheapest.

Correction: Virginia Arms in Manassas is an excellent place. Bernie and the guys will take care of you big time.

Other NoVa area:

Loudoun Guns in Leesburg is another option.

Blue Ridge Armory in Chantilly, since the original owners are gone, has improved and they do have a range, but selection is small.

I concur with the opinions on Virginia Arms. It is a top-notch shop in every way. They have the best prices in the area on new firearms and a great selection, as well. Also, they make sure that folks who consign guns put a realistic price on them. They currently have a NIB S&W 442 (+P rated) on consignment for $325.00. Also a Sig P225, reconditioned by Sig, with night sites, box and 2 mags for $550. I believe that it's K-koted as well. These are very good prices for these guns and typical of what you will see there pricewise.

Va Arms is your best choice. They have the best prices short of any B&M shop in NoVa. Greentop in Ashland is sometimes better, but not by a large enough margin to make a special trip.

Edit to add: You will hear much less gunshop BS at Va Arms as well. My wife even likes going there. When she's stopped by on my behalf, they've treated her well and were helpful to her.

I like Clark bros.

Neat gun store with a range out back, very good prices on all their stuff, just a ways from the maryland suburbs.
