Freedom-loving Illinois citizens were dealt a serious blow today when Senate Bill 16 - the Daley plan to ban and confiscate your semiautomatic rifles and shotguns- passed out of the Senate Public Health Committee. The bill now goes to the full Senate for what promises to be a furious floor fight.

YOUR IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE IS NEEDED IN THE BATTLE TO SAVE YOUR GUNS! PLEASE DO EACH OF THE FOLLOWING THINGS:

1. Call Senate President Emil Jones's office at (217) 782-2728 and tell the person that answers that you are a law-abiding gun owner and you do not appreciate Senator Jones treating you like a criminal. (Jones is the original sponsor of SB16).

2. Call your State Senator and POLITELY tell him or her that you oppose SB16 and you would like them to vote against SB16 when it reaches the senate floor. If you do not know who your senator is, then call (217) 782-2000 and ask the switchboard to connect you with your senator. Or go on the Internet to: www.ilga.gov and use the 'Legislator Lookup' feature in the lower right hand corner to identify your senator and get their phone number.

3. Call State Senator Antonio Munoz, the sponsor of SB16's most recent amendment, at: (217) 782-9415 and tell the person who answers that you are a law-abiding gun owner and that you do not appreciate Senator Munoz treating you like a criminal. Then call Munoz's district office at (773) 869-9050 and tell the person there the same thing.

4. In a tactic as bad as the Soviet Union, Committee Chairman Susan Garrett denied gun owners the opportunity to testify against SB16 in senate hearings on the bill today. In effect, YOUR VOICE WAS SILENCED by Sen. Garrett. Of course, Daley's Gun Grabbers were allowed to testify. So, it is important that you call Sen. Garrett's office at (217) 782-3650, and remind the person who answers the phone that this is still the United States of America and that you are angry that Sen. Garrett denied your fellow citizens the right to be heard. Also, call Garrett's district office at (847) 433-2002 and tell the person there the same thing.

5. Pass this alert along to all your gun owning friends. Tell them to make the same phone calls.

6. Post this alert to any and all Internet bulletin boards to which you belong.

7. If you are not a member of the ISRA, or you have gun owning friends who are not members of the ISRA, then go to www.isra.org and join today.

THIS MAY BE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO SAVE YOUR GUNS

No more of this BS about pro gun Democrats in Illinois. The pro gun Dems put this guy Jones in control of the Illinois Senate.

ISRA-PVF Press Release:
Illinois Gun Control Bill Could Prove Costly to Downstate Senate Democrats

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., March 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by the ISRA Political Victory Fund (ISRA-PVF):

A proposal to ban hundreds of models of popular sporting rifles and shotguns is raising the ire of gun owners across Illinois. Sponsored by Senate President Emil Jones, SB16 prohibits the manufacture, sale and possession of a host of rifles and shotguns widely used for hunting and target shooting. Owners of affected firearms would have 90-days to surrender their property to the Illinois State Police or risk felony prosecution.

"The net effect of this bill would be the destruction of many time-honored Illinois traditions," said ISRA-PVF spokesman, Richard Pearson. "Competitive target shooting -- enjoyed by thousands of
Illinoisans -- would become a thing of the past. Collectors would feel the sting of this legislation as well, since their collections would become virtually worthless overnight. Thanks to the ambiguous wording of the bill, its passage would instantly create hundreds of thousands of felons out of folks who have never gotten so much as a parking ticket before. The kicker is, this bill contains absolutely no provisions that address violent criminals -- its sole impact is on the law-abiding hunter and sportsman."

"If SB16 passes the Senate, the state's gun owners will know exactly where to place the blame," continued Pearson. "That blame rests squarely with the senate Democrats, both north and south of I-80, who elevated Emil Jones to the president's chair."

"The lawful firearm owners of Illinois have enjoyed mutually-beneficial relationships with legislators on both sides of the aisle," commented Pearson. "If SB16 passes, many of those relationships will come to a screeching halt. Southern Illinois politics are in a state of change, with senate races getting closer all the time. If the senate Democrats who elected Emil Jones to the presidency cannot control him, then we'll do what we can to take his majority away from him. No friend of Emil Jones is a friend of ours."

The ISRA-PVF is a political action committee affiliated with the Illinois State Rifle Association. A copy of our report is available for a fee from the Illinois State Board of Elections, Springfield, Illinois.

The action alert IMHO is the honorable government for the great state of Illinois. Period.

I'm saddened by this, but not angry nor surprised. I think skunks stink by nature, water + dirt makes mud by nature, and Governments do what the do best by nature. Especially in Illinois by Democrats.

Still, take action.

I just sent Sen Watson a nice lengthy e-mail. I will also call, many times.
"[email protected]"
This sucks!

And my local gun dealer was going to make quite a bit of money off me, but there you have it, our crappy state killing off business.

Gotta love those Democrats.

George

All right, enough with the defeatist talk. This bill was going to get out of committee. The leadership assigned it that particular committee for just that reason.

It doesn't mean we've lost the fight. We've beaten this thing back for how many years in a row?

Call, write, email but don't give up. There are plenty more chances to fight.

Jeff

d) This Section does not apply to or affect any of the
25 following:
26 (1) Peace officers as defined in Section 2-13 of this

1 Code and retired peace officers not otherwise prohibited
2 from receiving a firearm, in possession of a semi-automatic
3 assault weapon, assault weapon attachment, or .50 caliber
4 rifle transferred to the retired peace officer by his or
5 her law enforcement agency upon retirement.

What serves by transferring guns to retired police officers?

(c) This Section does not apply to a person who possessed a
12 weapon or attachment prohibited by subsection (b) before the
13 effective date of this amendatory Act of the 95th General
14 Assembly, provided that the person has provided proof of
15 ownership to the Department of State Police within 90 days
16 after the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 95th
17 General Assembly as required by law. On or after the effective
18 date of this amendatory Act of the 95th General Assembly, such
19 person may transfer such weapon or attachment only to an heir,
20 an individual residing in another state maintaining that weapon
21 in another state, or a dealer licensed as a federal firearms
22 dealer under Section 923 of the federal Gun Control Act of
23 1968.

As I read it this means grandfathering/registration. In a way that stinks because a lack of a "Grandfather Clause" would get all the folks too lazy to act any other time riled up. I read over on AR15.com from a guy that managed to get through to his senator (I just got a secretary who added my name to a list) that an ammendment was added today. If they added a Grandfather Clause its chances of passing will increase as it would avoid the huge, huge protest confiscation would have generated  .

If this thing passes this is what I would do. Nothing.

Let them try and come and confiscate your rightfully owned firearms. I am not advocating violence by any means but civil disobdience.

Make sure you have already retained the services of a good lawyer.

Times like these are the exact reason the framers of the Constitution included the 2nd amendment - for when government oversteps their boundaries.
Well, government has overstepped their boundaries.

These are the Darkest days for IL Gun Owners

With the further inroads accomplished by the Democrats, this year, Gov. Daley has a chance to see some of his anti-gun dreams come true.
With the success of the (non-grandfathered) Cook County assault ban getting passed and now in place, the Dems. feel they can take that momentum to the state. The Cook County ban also includes pump & semi-auto shotguns with a capacity to hold more than 5 rounds...With the 2" "shorty" rounds, ALL pump & semi shotguns will hold more than 5 rounds!
The topper on their ban is the statement "but not limited to"

Now, they are starting in at state level.:fire:

My wife & I are part of a group that has chartered 8 busses to show up in Springfield Wed. 14th. We have to fight this crap tooth & toenail!
We haven't got much to work with but, we can't just roll over and let it happen.

If anyone wants more info on Lobby day or anything else on the IL Gun bans, contact us.

In the fine tradition of Illinois politics, maybe ISRA needs to send Senator Jones a large "ploitical contribution" in hopes he withdrwas his legislation. Maybe the same with His Honor Daly?:)

Lets not give up hope yet. Don't forget we in Illinois have had the same Mayor, the same Governor and Democratic majorities in the House and Senate for several years without an AWB. Now is the time to keep on working hard to protect and furthur our rights, not wail of gloom and doom.
I went to the Gun Owners Lobby Day a few years ago when it was not a big gathering. I will be at this one and will probably make it an annual event. Anyone undecided about going should remember the main goal of all polititions is to be re-elected and the more bodies they see in Springfield the better for us. If you can't attend at least call your Senator and Representative, phone calls are importaint also. Jim.

Well, Browning would be out of luck for sales of BARs in that state:

(B) a semi-automatic rifle that has an ability to
15 accept a detachable magazine and has any of the
16 following:

17 (i) a folding or telescoping stock;
18 (ii) a pistol grip or thumbhole stock;
19 (iii) a shroud that is attached to, or
20 partially or completely encircles the barrel, and
21 that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with
22 the non-trigger hand without being burned;

Wonder how they expect people to NOT get burned without a foregrip.

EDIT: Maybe section (d)(7) will allow the use of these.

Let them try and come and confiscate your rightfully owned firearms. I am not advocating violence by any means but civil disobdience.

I recommend setting up some kind of camera/live feed to record the event should it befall you. And make sure there is some way for that recording to get out should you be arrested and your camera confiscated.

This needs to be sticked at the top of the page so all illinois residents can begin contacting relevant reps.

Illinois sure beats me down some days. I believe 39 states are now shall issue and we still have to fight tooth and nail just to keep what we have or to keep the priviliege of buying new guns. Anyway emails away, calls will happen tomorrow although I have a reasonably good idea of what senator jones' position on the matter is already.

Let them try and come and confiscate your rightfully owned firearms. I am not advocating violence by any means but civil disobdience.
No one's coming to confiscate your gun, they'll just haul your butt to jail sometime when you're using it at the range or if its looked at during a traffic stop or something. You'll be relatively safe to have it at home unused and unpracticed with in your closet. I'm not sure thats much a victory or much of a protest, but to each his own. Or you'll register it and not be able to buy any more.

I made my calls, and I found it amazing how many answering machines you get to talk to!! It was 2 Pm on a Wednesday! Are they still on lunch? I keep calling until I can speak to a "human".

The People's Republik is another of the lost causes ie NJ, NY, Cal, Md- This type of legislation will continue to be presented until it passes- If not this time then sometime in the future and probably not too far off- The agenda is set- Sorry for you guys that live there, but the handwriting is on the wall- You may be able to beat them back but eventually they will win because the voters will continue to elect Blogo Daley clones unless the earth opens up and swallows Moscow, I mean Bejing, I mean, what the heck is the name of that cesspool on Lake Michigan?-

Thats a strange mix of defeatist and sure attitudes. Just as we fought back to keep the federal awb from being renewed, the anti's do fight back when they're defeated too. The forum is buzzing about hr1022. The battle isn't over in won states either. Washington and FL are both very firearms friendly but you
ll see a notice about a washington anti-gun law at the top of the page. I believe a FL rep has recently introduced a very broad anti semi-automatics bill. The FL bill and hr1022 don't have a chance, but just because you've won doesn't mean you get to sit back and forget about it, even if you're in a gun friendly state. Just be very careful because your sure thing states will eventually try to turn too and you may be left with nowhere to run to.

Living in this state is like some kind of dystopia. The roads are hideous, the crowding anywhere near the tumor on the lake is unreal, the traffic is brutal, and the politicians at every level are the most corrupt in the US. The only place that comes close as far as corruption goes, is NJ.

Taxes are high, and getting higher. You can't blame the weather on our scumbag politicians, but the weather stinks too.

48 states have some form of concealed carry, here the only way to have that is to become a Chicago city councilman. The governor was on TV today flapping his lips about raising taxes to support yet another socialist giveaway. You can almost hear the businesses slamming their doors on the announcement. If this "law" passes, it will drive many companies right out of business. It bans the manufacture of certain weapons. Armalite, Springfield Armory, Les Baer, DSA, RRA, and I believe DPMS all are based in Illinois.

Were I in charge of any of those companies, I believe I would follow the lead of Ronnie Barrett. Ban the ownership of these weapons, and I won't sell them to any Illinois police force much like he did for California.

And this law does absolutely nothing to address crime. Not a thing. Further proof that gun control is not about guns, it's about control. Control of law-abiding citizens who have done nothing wrong. And it is perpetrated by people who have armed body guards and concealed carry permits in a state where it is impossible for a normal citizen to get one.

As the ISRA says in their alert, if it passes, the people who made this sad clown Jones president of the senate need to lose their jobs in the next election. No exceptions.
