f I get hurt or killed by a criminal,my family members will hold you accountable along with the criminals actions during the commission of the criminal act that was done to me and my family and the prpeties owned by me and my family.

Like they care.

Tell them this, instead: There are people who leave Illinois on account of it's gun laws. There are people who refuse to come to Illinois on account of it's gun laws. There are people who refuse to visit or pass through Illinois on account of it's gun laws. All money lost.

And they will respond:

Do not worry about the people (and their $$$) who leave Illinois, they will be more than made up for by the people (and their $$$) who come to Illinois to Sparta http://dnr.state.il.us/OI/Aug06/Aug06Site.pdf

See Ill isn't antigun only anti against bad evil guns "assault guns"

See the Governor is not anti gun he spent state money for shooters.

Nobody has bothered to mention the number of Firearm producers in this state who manufacture the exact weapons this ban is calling to make illegal.

Grandfather the goodies in good citizens hands or not, this bill will put a whole lot of gun manufacturers OUT OF BUSINESS or at the very least, severely curtail their manufacturing capabilities for a year or more while they seek to relocate and reorganize.

Some of those Manufacturers:
Springfield Inc
Les Baer
Armalite Manufacturing
DSA Arms Inc
Dick Heine
Rock River Arms Inc.
Lewis Machine and Tool
Few others I forgot to list.

Think this crap doesn't effect you because you live in a "Safe State",,,,,,,,

Sorry to steal this important thread for a second - but can someone tell me if the Lewis Machine is the same that used to make Garand barrels in the 50s?

A lot more gun makers will be affected than listed above. There are quite a few makers of parts and components for firearms in Illinois that will be shut down, thus destroying a source of components for gun makers not even in the state. Don't think for a minute that the anti-gunners are focused on Illinois just to impact Illinois. This is a carefully targeted effort, and timed to coincide with a possible Democrat victory in Washington in 2008. If they shut down a large portion of gun manufacture for a year or so while companies relocate, they may then close the door for good after a 2008 victory at the national level. Consider this the first attack of many to follow. The gauntlet has been thrown down.

Bingo!

IGOLD (Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day) is next week and I'm sure they would rather get this "common sense" measure voted on the floor before the gun owners and the ISRA actually get a chance to inform legislators on what it really means and what it really really bans.

There are a lot downstate Dems in closely contested districts that have careers on the line over this vote.

Not to mention many of them with manufacturers that will be run out of state if it passes.

Call and tell them you were going to move your business to Illinois, but because of the current political climate you decided not to

It's only on the calendar for a second reading. They won't bring it up for the third reading and vote until they think they have the votes to pass it. Last session HB2414 sat in this status for months. If they don't think they have the votes, they will put it into the rules committee so they can bring it back out later.

I don't think this is going to be quick and I don't think they can pass it before the 14th. I think we will deal with this bill or it's house counterpart till the end of the session in 2009.

Okay, I'll get the day off work - anybody have information on the swing votes for this legislation. Will contact my senator, but he is already against it. I could call and write all the senators, (have before), but that would be a waste of effort for this legislations die hard supporters and I would rather focus on those legislators that are waffling or possible swing votes. Anybody have a handle on who needs the encouragement to do the right thing?

Means Munoz "the bill sponsor" is not ready to proceed so it's on hold until he is.

Could be he is not sure of votes yet, or could be he's working on another amendment. Just don't know.

The deadline is 31 March. However they can refer it back to the rules committee if they don't have the votes and can keep it alive for the rest of the session, which is what I look to happen.

Jeff

It's getting almost zero coverage in the press--just like the Cook Co. ban.

They may have bit off more than they can chew--if they want to register every +10 mag in a 90 day window, who will pay for this? Casual 1 pistol owners who bought a 'hi cap' weapon need to be reached. That pistol in the lockbox on the nightstand in Homewood or Naperville is about to make them criminals and they don't even have a clue. So is that old M-1 carbine mag in their Dad's junk box in the tool shed. The Cook Co. residents STILL haven't heard--nobody bothered to tell them. Emil and his toady Munoz JUST DON"T EVEN CARE ABOUT KEEPING THEIR WORD. I don't get this state---Daley is cast as 'The Duce' in the whole thing and the place feels like the Reich in it's early days without the brownshirts.

Well, wait a minute on the part about the 'brownshirts'...

One point on the grandfather clause

My understanding is that you will have to "prove" ownership of each gun and magazine...Otherwise????
How many of us have receipts for every magazine and gun we own?
And...Then, they have a record of every banned item you own...How hard will it be to come back later on and confiscate every one!

Will contact my reps (don't know how much good it will do). I gotta get out of this state!

With the victory in D.C today perhaps we could fight this thing in the courts if it passes as we now have a precident to follow. I plan to renew my memberships to a few gun rights groups this year to help make sure theres money in their legal funds for a possible court battle. D.C has given me some hope today (I never thought I'd say that  ).

I wrote my District's State Senator (Watson, Republican) and this is what I got in return:

Dear George,

Thank you for contacting our office regarding SB 1296. I understand your concerns and will not be supporting this legislation in its current form. This bill is not good for business in Illinois.

Again, I appreciate you taking the time to express your views.

Sincerely,
Frank Watson
State Senator

I guess "he" is on the right side of this thing.

I will keep sitting tight until I read or hear different.

Cheers,
George

What is SB1296? Another gun ban of some kind?

I know the big ban they are pushing that is on the senate floor is SB16, which would ban many shotguns, rifles, and pistols, and magazines.

Not good for business? I wonder if that's the only reason he's not supporting it...how about "not good for freedom"?
