I suppose the good news is they weren't terrorists.

September 15, Immigration and Customs Enforcement — Immigration agents arrest illegal aliens at nuclear plant. In the latest in a series of arrests involving illegal aliens at nuclear facilities, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agents arrested three illegal aliens in Blair, NE, on Tuesday, September 13, when they attempted to enter the outer
secure area of the Omaha Public Power District’s Fort Calhoun Nuclear Station to perform contract work at the plant for the first time. The three men, all citizens of Mexico, had been hired by an independent contractor to perform maintenance work at the nuclear facility. As they attempted to enter a secure area of the plant, the men presented identification documents that
raised the suspicions of Omaha Public Power District employees. They contacted ICE special agents for assistance, who responded and arrested the men after determining that they were illegally present in the United States. All three men have been placed in immigration removal
proceedings. ICE agents are investigating the circumstances under which the private contractor hired the illegal aliens. ICE agents have determined that the illegal aliens were not engaged in any terrorist activity. The enforcement action is the latest in a series of ICE arrests involving illegal aliens performing contract work at nuclear plants and other nuclear−related facilities
around the country.

In california we are about to give them Driver licenses!

Therefore, legitimizing their illegal status here. Way to go Sacramento.

Great, they are arrested, now deport their butts, and fine and fire the folks who hired them.

Just read in the newspaper here in VA several delegates want to declare a state of emergency similar to what AZ has done because the population has exploded.

We used to have a bunch working as cleaners at McGuire Air Force Base. They used to clean the heavy jet transports and tankers. Did so for years before the USAF learned their status.

I think they work in the Pentagon now........

More likely they work in Social Security and program where the checks go.

Speaking of which, Bush has made known his feelings that it would be a good thing to use SS to help the "poor and elderly" in Mexico.

Yeah, FDR on a trail bike.

Hey! They're just here to do jobs Americans won't do...................
Don’t get me started ….…my state has lost a crap load of jobs south of the border and I have yet to see reduced retail prices.

Great, so they can take that CA license and go anywhere in the US and use it to get a license from that state.

The problem here is that we are using driver's licenses as the national ID card, when they should do nothing more than give permission to operate a motor vehicle on public roads.

When I was building toys for the Navy, at Ingles Shipyard, ICE came in and arrested 29 "undocumented workers". This is in a Homeland Security area. They came in the next day and found 2 cell phones with pictures of the boat on them. Areas such as the bridge, comm.area and radar room!!! :what:
The contractor they worked for is no longer at Ingles. Heard somthing about a $20,000 fine for each illegal arrested! :D

The sad thing is how rare it is for ICE to actually arrest these people and consider deporting them. Apparently you have to enter a nuclear facility before they care.

We're just giving this country away to people who neither respect nor
cherish it.

We have no one to blame but ourselves, though. Both parties are
complete failures. The Dems want the illegals for the votes and
the Repubs want them for the cheap labor. I personally know of
local small manufacturing businesses that were undercut by their
competition. They had hired legal workers and payed them above
minimum wage and whereas the others had hired illegals and payed
below minimum. Over time, the business that PLAYED BY THE RULES
went under.

The sound of 200 million Americans who want hard action against illegal immigration should be deafening--even to someone as deaf on the subject as George Bush.

But where's the roar? Where?

Whispered by water coolers? On forums like this?

I have yet to see one large anti-illegal immigration demonstration that would require bigtime media coverage.

People need to stand up and declare themselves and take this situation with the seriousness that it really has.

We are coming to a crossroads on this one.

Anti-illegal immigration demonstrations are racist (not)……or at least they only deserve bigtime media coverage when they appear to be racist.

We could stop (or vastly reduce) illegal immigration in short order with a few decisive steps. Several of us have outlined those; they aren't classified information. But the key is getting the message across to those who hold the political power and making clear to them that non-action will have dramatic political consquences for them. There are some positive rumblings but we have a long, long way to go. I'm not sure what it will take for more people to speak out or for the general outrage to start being voiced.

Both parties know the divide between the ruling caste and taxpaying caste. Both know how touchy the situation is. Both know they are thumping matches at a pan of gasoline.

Trouble is they personally can not go against their own. Why, committee assignments will dry up. Guided investments will suddenly go bad. Information gathering trips with lobbiests will vaporize. Why, reps might actually find out their party ceases supporting the incumbent and instead promotes a newbe. Any solution other than doing what the taxpaying caste demands will involve lies, deceit and betrayal. One side or the other will lose. Any appearance of coming together is just that; appearance.

But the key is getting the message across to those who hold the political power and making clear to them that non-action will have dramatic political consquences for them.

It's clear that those who benefit from the current border situation have more money in the pot than those who are opposed to what is happening. Business supports this immigration policy, and face it - they pay the lobbyist bills. Politicians have nothing to fear from us - look at the number of incumbents who get back into office every election cycle. The system, which they've cleverly manipulated for their own gain is heavily weighted to put incumbents back in office. Soon they'll cram Bush's "guest worker" plan down our throats and the illegal immigration problem will be "solved". The moans and groans on forums such as this one will the louder than ever - and yet the same people who pushed this obnoxious scheme thru Congress will be returned to their jobs in the '06 election.
We're in the era of "Bend over and assume the position", get used to it.

But the money they have in the pot is, in the end, ours, no?

I agree that the basic reasonableness of the American people, conflated with the predictable inertia of comfortable living, works in favor of those who want illegal immigration to proceed as planned.

But the wild card here is the very real possibility of an economic collapse that pulls the rug out from the previously content middle class. It may be a collapse in slow motion but the makings of serious discontent at the productive core of this society are there. When it finally dawns on the average working American that the future is in real doubt, for not only his children but for himself, people will have less to lose by acting than by not acting. I see this coming, probably in the next few years.

I think we will see a shadow of what Longeyes predicts in the runout of Katrina. Bush has grandiose plans of rebuilding NO. Care to guess about any demographic shifts taking place in the very near future? Move the same concern to any city taking in refugees. Perhaps for the first time the entire country will see in graphic detail what only impacted communities have seen so far.
