HB2567 has been entered and assigned to the House Agricultural Committee. That may sound odd, but check out the listing below of the pro-gun records of the members of this Democrat-dominated committee.

Currently the bill has only two sponsors, Rep. Phelps and my own Rep, Gary Hannig, a Democrat himself.

There's another CCW bill out there that may be pretty similar, but it does put issuing authority in the hands of the Counties rather than the state police. If both are truly shall-issue, that may not matter, but I figure individual sheriffs are probably less trustworthy. Whether that's true, I don't really know.

Using the profiling system Mac Mcwilliams uses at TBI2A, you can get a more complete picture. These are the profiles for these legislators in 2003-2004 (last session) since they don't really have voting records for this session yet.

GREEN means the member votes with us at least 75% of the time. :D
YELLOW means the member votes with us 50-75% of the time. :)
ORANGE means the member votes with us 25-50% of the time.
PINK means the member votes with us 0-25% of the time (they hate us.)

It would seriously crack me up if Illinois went CCW and shall issue before Wisconsin, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and assorted other hold out states.

I wouldn't hold my breath

Onmilo, let me just give my responses in order of priority:

1. Hell no.

2. That offer is not, to my knowledge, on the table.

WHY DO WE ASSUME VICTORY IS IMPOSSIBLE?

Re:

I'm with you Mr Gwinn....Victory is NOT impossible...it it however implausible as long as the gun owners of Illinois do not rally, plan, focus and push our officials to pass CCW in Illinois. If we want it badly enough, we can make it happen....mack

Human Services meets tomorrow--They have something like three greens, five yellows, and a couple of pinks, along with a brand-new Democrat and a brand-new Republican.

The Yellows are people who vote with us 50-75% of the time, so they're "gettable" in my opinion. They are Reps. Collins, Flowers, Howard, Jakobsson, Jenisch and Rita. CALL THEM.

Their numbers are easily available at www.ilga.gov.

They're hearing HB1060 (Assault weapons ban) and 1098 (.50 ban) tomorrow, among others, and they should be getting swamped with calls!

Check back later today for more. I have to take the students to lunch at the moment. ;)

The key is to get wives/girlfriends/daughters to also call/write. They are 50+% of the eliglble voters. Their voice seems to carry more weight on issues like this.

"Mr. Politican, why won't you allow me to protect myself from rapists and murderers ???"

:what:

OK, people, I just called the fence-sitters I cited above to leave messages, and their voicemail systems are still not full. They need to be stuffed!

Don Gwinn. It is cracker barrel talk in my neck of the woods.

Make no bones about this.
No one in my neck of the woods and prairies encourages any form of restrictive measures.

If your hell no is serious then reassure me that negotiation will not happen.

Onmilo, I can only speak for myself. I'm sorry if I came off as thinking that you WANT to negotiate. It was the cynicism of stating flatly that only capitulation and appeasement would work that I was criticizing. I'm not telling you negotiation will not happen. I'm simply saying that I think it would be a mistake and that, in any case, I don't think the antis would go for it anyway.

By negotiating away .50 caliber rifles, we give them something they're not strong enough to take on their own. We can be sure of this because when the antis think they can win, they NEVER negotiate. They wouldn't offer us anything in return for the .50's unless they knew they couldn't take the .50's against our will.
In fact, the only reason Illinois gun owners are so ready to bargain and negotiate as a first resort is that WE, as a group, don't believe we can impose our will and take back what is ours over the objections of the antis. As a group, Illinois gun owners and our allies tend to think we need the antis to get our agenda done. It's a mistake.

From the antis' point of view, even if they knew they couldn't get the .50's any other way, this would be a horrible deal even if they could do it. You and I know that they don't really care that much about .50 caliber rifles; banning those rifles is a means to an end. It is absolutely nothing more than a first step to get their feet in the door to banning other guns step by step.

CCW, on the other hand, scares them to death for more reasons than I think most gun owners realize. Yes, many of them are terrified that CCW holders will shoot up parking lots over fender-benders, but the ones who've done the homework know that isn't going to happen. What worries THEM is that CCW has the potential to derail one of their most potent and underestimated strategies, which is to make owning a gun such a hassle and so impractical that it isn't worth it for more and more people. CCW makes it much more practical and useful for a lot of people to own a firearm, go shooting, etc. who otherwise never would.

No way in the world would they make that trade. Wait and see, that'll never be on the table.

Didja notice we beat all the anti-gun bills in front of the Senate Judiciary committee yesterday with no deals cut to give anything up (as far as we know so far, anyway.)
