Illinois CCW bill introduced

Looks pretty reasonable.

The really interesting part of this is that the author is a Democrat. I will be talking to my state rep about signing onto this bill. Jim.

I hope it gets through and signed by the Gov.

Blago won't sign. He's a gun-hater, and in thrall to Hizzoner Dick Daley.

On the other hand, we got the affirmative defense law passed last year over his veto.

Prohibiting home rule is essential here. I can think of Morton Grove as one victim disamament zone that would prefer that this bill never passes.

Learn from the enemy. Come back, keep coming back. The CCW in Florida or Texas did not happen overnight. The recent class action reform did not transpire overnight, it took nearly 10 years.

Keep pressure on, we are the tiger on the back of the elephant (apologies to Comrade General Giap). :D

Even if it has municipal pre-emption, local is better as far as making changes.

Take what you can realistically get and keep pushing for more.

It's working in AK and is using the "grabbers" tactics against them.

The irony alone is so satisfying.

One can only hope. I travel to Peoria twice a year, and while it isn't exactly downtown D.C., crime wise, I still feel stupid being able to pack heat through every other state from Alabama to Illinois, then having to unload the gun, lock it in its case, and put the case in the trunk to enter the state (legally).

Not to mention their ????ed up laws about FOID's.

I agree that it's right to try and try-if only to move the 'compromise' more in our direction-but this bill is about as dead as Elvis.

But my fingers will be crossed, regardless.

The fight here in Wisconsin for shall-issue began over ten years ago.

Just keep fighting. Every year has brought us closer to winning.

If you introduce a CCW bill every year, what are the odds that it will be signed if one makes it to the Governor's desk.

You're probably wrong.

Crusaders need hope. Without hope, you simply do not get crusaders.

Wisconsin's anti-gun Governor Doyle was absolutely opposed to any sort of property tax freeze.

The Republican majorities in the senate and assembly beat him up hard enough that he had to announce his own plan to freeze property tax rates. His stunning announcement said that property taxes next year would only go up $3 per home.

What does this have to do with CCW? Everything. The governor had to cave to public pressure, and came up with an extremely lame promise on taxes. A whopping three dollars.

Many on THR believe that open-carry marches, carrying concealed and then challenging through the court system, or other brazen methods will change the politics.

In Wisconsin, and probably Illinois as well, those publicity stunts won't work.

The work will be done--one on one--in the offices of the individual legislators.

Look, people, we all know that 46 states have no problems. So do the legislators. They're not as dumb as they seem (with a few exceptions). What those legislators are looking for is: a) political cover from any fallout from the press; and b) a quid pro quo to bring home some bacon to their districts that will more than offset any heat the concealed carry issue the press raises.

So, what can gun owners do to deliver (a)? Write, call, email, and get every last living relative or critter you know to do the same. Letters and postcards are the best. When I and other WCCA volunteers went into legislators' offices and asked what the ratio of pro-CCW to opposition was, some of those sumbitches lied. Surprise! When I asked them to show me the stacks of mail, it was an avalanche versus a snow-dusting favoring our side. We always win. We always will.

The tough part for us, as political outsiders, is to bring the quid pro quo to the table. We're not part of that process.

The most that we can do is offer to help Legislator Joe in his effort to bring a new library to his district.

Conversely, if the library is absolutely unnecessary, then it's incumbent upon us to alert the rest of the voters as to why Legislator Joe is trading his vote on concealed carry for a Pork Project.

If that fails, then some might want to consider "alternative means." Legislator Joe probably has some personal faults--perhaps many more than the average person, given his ego--that can be brought to light. Chances are that there are some professional private investigators in your state who know how to uncover such faults. I know that we have them here.

In the end, the fight for CCW always turns dirty. The question is how much dirt you want to get on yourself to get the bill passed.

We have a billboard here locally that shows a picture of President Lincoln.
Underneath of his picture it says - "FAILED, FAILED, FAILED, Persevered!"
I believe he was from IL if I am not mistaken.........

What has been happening with the other states is the dems continue to lose on this issue. A lib may not understand why they might need a gun in a house with locks and bars but that feeling changes when they're in a parking garage late at night.
Keep the fight going and pretty soon, the anti's are out of office and we start to win not only on this issue but others.

I am not sure what they were getting at with Lincoln failures. If they were pointing out that he failed on all accounts as a human being a leader, and that he was preserved by embalming, then I agree. :D He was a piece of garbage that bares much of the responsibility of why are liberties are being taken away.

I do hope you IL fellas get this passed, I often think of how bad it stinks to live in a predominately rural state that is controled so much by one Socialist city!

Good Luck
Jay

Good Luck!

MO had quite a fight to get CCW, and it's still on shakey ground, but getting better!

There's only 4 states now that don't allow some kind of CCW. Once all 50 have it, then maybe there can be a push for a national level of recipicosity or No need for permits or something...
