These are questions regarding the Illinois firearm storage laws.

I believe the law states that firearms have to be stored in a place that one would believe to be inaccessible by children 14 and under.

My question is does this apply to homes with no children? I know it is a good idea to keep your guns well hidden and locked away even if you don't have kids, but is it legally necessary?

Are you required to keep a trigger lock on any firearms, keep them in a gun safe, or otherwise well hidden and hard to get to?

What if you are at home? Can you legally keep a accessible weapon for home defense or must it be locked until needed?

If possible could someone direct me to the actual statute so I can read for myself?

BTW I don't live in the socialist city of Chicago, I am from southern IL. I just want to know what the deal is with this law.

it is unlawful for any person to store or leave, within premises under his or her control, a firearm if the person knows or has reason to believe that a minor under the age of 14 years who does not have a Firearm Owners Identification Card is likely to gain access to the firearm without the lawful permission of the minor's parent, guardian, or person having charge of the minor, and the minor causes death or great bodily harm with the firearm, unless the firearm is:

So, seeing as there are no children in my home; would that mean (in the legal sense) that children are not able to gain access to my firearms.

Keep in mind that, children almost never come over here: If they do it is for a family gathering and they will be well supervised, also the room that contains my firearms is secure.

My house is locked, my bedroom is locked, and my guns are well hidden.

I would think that means I have satisfied the requirement. I personally hate using trigger locks, I put them on my less used firearms, but I do not put them on my home defense rifle, unless I am leaving home or family is coming over.

I personally don't think that children will be able to gain access to my guns on the very point that I dont have any kids! I am just worried that I am legally obligated to go further, I do not wish to, but I will if necessary.

If there are no kids in the house you can have your house littered with guns if you want.
