Well Folks I just moved from "THe Peoples Republic of California" and now am living in Illinois. I have always wanted to own a Ar-15 and a AK-47 and have found out that I can in Illinois as long as I have a Valid FOID card. What I also found out is that there is diffrent gun laws in ever small county in Illinois. I now know for a fact that Cook County where Chicago City is has banned these types of weapons. I heared If I live outside of Cook County I can Own One of these guns. I am living in "Kane County" right now and am not sure about the laws there. Can somone point me in the right direction by telling me if it is legal to obtain one of these guns, or show me a link to a good web site so I can see if they are. And what do I have to do to obtain my FOID. I dont need complete legal advice just a starter of opinions here.

My other problem is I am 19 years old and understand that you need parental consent to get a FOID card. However my parents live 2000 miles from here, can I still get one if my parents are not residents of Illinois. Thanks for the help.

Here's your foid application
http://www.isp.state.il.us/media/docdetails.cfm?DocID=38

Here's the faq on the foid:

I am under the age of 21, can I apply for a FOID card?
Yes. In addition to all other requirements, a person who is under 21 years of age must have the written consent of his or her parent or legal guardian to possess and acquire firearms and firearm ammunition. Also, he or she must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor other than a traffic offense or adjudged delinquent. The parent or legal guardian providing written consent must be eligible to possess a valid FOID card.

Here's some local laws to check:

Perhaps someone familiar with kane county can point you to where you can find their laws on the web.

I live in Knae county on the far East side of Aurora and it is plenty legal to own assault weapons in any kind (Ar, AK ETC...) as long as it is not an NFA weapon IE no full auto or select fire and barrel must be 16 inches if there is a stock on the weapon. I love My ARs and have not had a problem with the laws here other than the fact that the do suck:fire: Any how If you are looking to join a great club pm me. Later...

Depending on exactly where you live in this here People's Republic, congrats.

Outside of Daleygrad and it's satellites, there's no approved gun list and no 10 round magazine limit. No CCW, whatsoever, unless you happen to be a Daleygrad alderman.

Have at it.

Outside Chicago, there's not much to worry about, but yeah, no preemption.

But, once you move here you have to be vigilant and ready to take part in regular prod the legislator activities. Daley and Gov. Rod try to push Chicago crap through at the state level all of the time. When the alert is sounded it's get on the phone to your state legislators and voice your opinion.

Joining the ISRA doesn't hurt, but I'm not convinced it helps as much as it could.

Welcome to Illinois

or Illannoy as some of us call it. Please check out http://www.illinoiscarry.com Those of us there are working on getting the gun laws changed. We are currently working on IGOLD 2008. IGOLD is Illinois Gun Owners Lobby day. This year gun owners showed up to the tune of 2000 of us. We hope to do better next year. It going to take all Illinois gun owners to get up off the couch, put down the remote and working together, to get things changed. It can happen. This year they had SB1007 the Assault weapons ban, and the 10 round magazine ban. We showed up in mass with 2000 supporters and both bills just disappeared. Join us. It's free and every voice added is a another brick in the wall

My only problem now is obtaining a FOID. I am not sure if I am excempt from this weird age law, My father and Mother are both Police Officers back in California and I now they would pass the criminal background check. I am my own person work hard and am engaged to a good girl, I have no parent and no legal gardian to sighn for me. My parents are 2000 miles away. So I am not sure if I will be excempt from the age law. I hope that I can still get my parents signature and they can even prove that they both have bought legal firearms in California. I hope they give me that card, if they deny it becasue of my parents living in another state, im legally gifhting it any way I can, because I am being denied a right.:fire:

If not can I say that my fiancee is my legal guardian:scrutiny: and she can sighn for me.

Ditto that, Desert Scorpion. These people need to be watched like a hawk.

IGOLD 2008

The people who most need to hear from us will be absent. Nevertheless, hmmm. Most likely I can spare the day.

Most of my

legislatures were in office or on the floor of the House or Senate this year during IGOLD. PLEASE join us. Seeing so many pro 2A people joining together scares the anti-gun bills right off the floor.:what:

All one of them has to do is sign the form. And you will have a big problem if you have guns and no FOID since it is illegal to even have them in your possession without a FOID. Where your parents live is not relevant.

If not can I say that my fiancee is my legal guardian and she can sighn for me.
It is a crime to make a false answer on the FOID card form.

Print the FOID app, fill it out and mail to your parents with a note saying "Please sign at the bottom. Love, Your Son." Send them a SASE along with it so they can mail it back to you. Once you get it back, attach your photo (It helps to write your name and SSN on the back) and your check or MO for $5 and send to the ISP.

Also have your fiancee' send in a FOID app also. 1 year in jail for her driving your car and Officer Overzealous finds ONE round of ammo rolling around on the floorboards when he pulls her over, will not make for a fun wedding........

And you can own anything in Kane County that's legal elsewhere in the state. No anti-2a laws unless you live in Aurora. http://www.isp.state.il.us/docs/ordinances/aurora_o.pdf

Thanks Scout will mail it soon, Just checked out the new Cabelas here very nice they have a few AR's two.:)

Just checked out the new Cabelas here very nice they have a few AR's two.

I was just there today! Bought a a Kel Tec .380 used, like new, $229. Thought it was a pretty good deal.

Make sure to also check out G.A.T. Guns which is near Cabela's off of route 25. Get off on 25 from 90, heading north. It is about 2 miles north of the interchange, on the right side. If you get to the Wal*Mart, you have gone too far. They usually stock at least 30 ARs, you will see a much better selection of AR's than Cabela's. Upstairs, Northwest corner of the store, near the used gun counter.

Do not disregard this advice. G.A.T. is a "real" gun store and has a better selection of some of the more "fun" equipment that you may wish to peruse.

No, I am not associated with G.A.T. You should also visit MegaSports in Plainfield, which is even bigger than G.A.T.

Please do join Icarry. The more progunners in the state the more we can prevent it from becoming a worse place than CA for gunowners. Illinois is not as bad in some regards as other states.

The Cook county ban only applies if your township does not have a home rule status.

Print the FOID app

make sure that you print it with both sides on the same sheet. there have been reports that the ISP is rejecting applications that print it out on two seperate sheets, and of course nowhere (at least nowhere obvious) on their web site does it mention that little gem.

and of course nowhere (at least nowhere obvious) on their web site does it mention that little gem.

I just sent my renewal off and bothered to print the back side having that very thought. Gee, did I need to print it in color too?

The only people who can sign for a person under 21 are parents and legal guardians, not spouses.

You can try to get yourself legally emancipated, which will exempt you from the requirement of a parental signature.

Contact Joann Bubonic (FOID contact) with questions. The above statements are taken directly from what she told us a couple months ago.
