As a voter in the Illinois Senate district that sends Susan Garrett to the Legistlature, I have just received a mailing from her and State Rep. Elaine Neikritz that they will have a townhall-style meeting in Des Plaines at the DP Public Library at 10:30am, Saturday, May 5, 2007.
Garrett is one of the main sponsors of anti-gun legislation in Illinois and has sponsored or co-sponsored just about every gun ban proposal in the last several years.
According to the Illinois State Rifle Association (www.isra.org), Garrett was also the Committee chairperson to prevent citizen testimony against her most recent gun ban during the running of the bill through her committee.
Perhaps we could politely ask the good Senator and her partner Rep. Neikritz to explain why Illinois should spend hundreds of millions of dollars registering and banning millions of legally-owned firearms and criminalizing a large proportion of the state's population.
