Today, several members of the TN Mafia held an impromptu get-together at the Cheatham County range. Present were myself, Darrin, Bowlcut, Spanky McFly, and mwithers72.

I tried my first batch of reloaded 7.7 Jap. Other than 1 round with wet powder, which resulted in a squib load, that went well. I'm happy with the load. I didn't have a chronograph, so no velocity info to post. With no rest and just shooting it with iron sights, there were no groups to speak of either. That and I'm not the world's greatest marksman. Suffice to say, that while I wouldn't win any matches, I'm confident I could take a deer with it.

Now for the point of the thread. I started shooting my S&W 686 upside down. I was actually pretty accurate doing this, much to the surprise of not only those around me, but also to myself. Welllllll, Bowlcut was firing his P99 and offers to let me shoot it. So, after firing one round in the manner in which the weapon was designed, I decide to try it upside down. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!! The slide came back and tore a nice chunk of my hand open. I applied pressure immediately, and Bowlcut used my first aid kit to help me dress the wound. Darrin then drove me to the hospital, with Bowlcut and Spanky following us. I ended up with three stitches and a gauze-wrapped mitt.

Moral of the story: Don't be a DUMBA$$!! If I hadn't been trying to show-off, I wouldn't have done this to myself. That'll be the last time I ever attempt to fire a pistol upside down.

Also, Kevin, Darrin, Rodney and Mark, thank you for your help in packing my stuff up and getting me to the ER. While it wasn't a life-threatening injury, it is nice to see friends willing to stop what they are doing to help you out. I really appreciate it. My hat's off to y'all.

Frank

P.S. Don't be a DUMBA$$!!!!

Hope your hand heals quickly.

We've all done things like that. Thankfully, mine was severe enough that I don't have to be embarrassed by little things like remembering what happened. :)

Hey all I can do to help....me and my Eagle Scout abilities with that first aid. Then again Im so redneck I would have just grabed some duct take and secured the gauze to the hand and went back ;). What I did when I sliced my thumb on that stripper clip realllll deep. I guess we can say my gun now has spilled the blood of another man ;). Just as long as it wasnt too bad thats all that matters.

And people...he had the sense of mind to make the gun safe pointed down range and get pressure on it before we left the fireing line :D now hows that for Army training ;)

Ouch!! I have a P99 too! I'll have to remember not to try and shoot it upside down......or backwards!! :what:

I'm sorry for the injury, hope you heal up soon. For the rest of the gang a 'thumbs up", shooters are great about being prepared and taking care of what needs to be taken care of.

I haven't been bit , and I haven't stuck my finger inside a 1100 in decades...that left side of receiver is sharp and will slice and index finger deep and quick.

I do test my CCWs to fire upside down , side ways (port up/port down) weak handed and "two finger limpwrist test" Its is that Murphy dealie.

I either turn my wrist so I'm still holding as should the gun -just inverted, or get on back and shoot "downed man" type drills. Sideways I want to know if I have shoot a BGs ankles from under a vehicle.

I just gotta know the gun will run no matter what. BTW did ya know mags don't release "up" ? :) Did ya know know ejecting a cyl laying on back is weird and hot brass will burn neck. I learnt laying on back and shooting over my head with gun "upside down". Dang gravity! :p

Glad your gonna be ok.

Pimpin' aint easy!

Thanks for being man enough to post your mistake; you probably saved others from losing some skin.

Hope all mended soon Frank and applaud your courage in reporting it to us.

Maybe you have saved one or two others similar results ... I have tried most things absurd (tho still safe in a ''safety'' sense) .... but this had not yet been tried out ..... and now it SURE won't.:)

You know, Frank, I was thinking about our conversation to the ER; I think you can use the term, 'gunshot wound,' for your injury. It is a wound resulting from a gun being shot... :D ;)
