I'm just beginning to break myself of the habit of buying guns I don't need before buying the accessories that I do need. Of course, I must admit that it's much easier to do when you're broke more often than not. That and Christmas is just around the corner. Lord, kids are expensive. I've made a pact with myself that I won't buy anymore guns until I've got all the stuff I want for the guns I currently have. Of course I know full well that I don't have that kind of willpower and self-discipline. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Too many Guns ????

I'm sorry ( too Many Guns) I'm not familiar with that phrase.

I too am a gunaholic.

I think of a niche in my collection that I have not yet filled. (Example: I have a full size 9mm, but not a full size all-steel 9mm.) I research and research all possible options. What accessories are available? Pre-ban magazine? Finish's? Grips? Sights? What do the gun mags say? What do THR members say? Eventually I narrow it down to one choice. Then shop for prices.

When the time is right I strike. Ahhhh.......Bliss for several days, maybe several weeks depending on how long I've anguished. Then I come down. Soon the urge will be calling.

And the cycle repeats.

Demise, you will soon join the ranks alongside our esteemed THR member, Jeff OTMG, the original "Owner of Too Many Guns", hence his name. The story is - one time he was telling a cop about all the guns he owned, and the cop, kind of taken aback, said something like "I'm not against guns, but man, that is TOO MANY". Lol - I hope I told it right.

Wardog, I feel your pain. :)

...ever tried ona deeze?

SEE! That's what I'm talking about! And I really do want a Valtro. Gawd.

I'm not looking for a cure, btw. I'm perfectly happy with this current state. I just need more money, that's all. Yeah, that's it, just a few dollars more. Then I can buy guns AND accesories! Woohoo!

Should be easy, right?

Demise, you're not alone. I do the same thing. I coulda had nite sites put on all my pistols, bought a few mags for each, a resomp mag catch for the Kimber (to use stock Para P14 mags), had my Para hardchromed and possibly have enough left over for a surefire 610R to put on my Colt, but instead I'm picking up a Thompson with two 30 round sticks and a 50 round drum.

He opens in a hour, I'm waiting impatiently...

My excuse, for when I need one, is that I'm buying them in sets of threes to hand down to the kids (11,8, & 5) someday. That way they don't have to fight over who gets what  . When it gets to be more than three of one model then I'll throw the eventual grandkids into the mix :D .

I get all the assesories or it continues to erk me. I keep a notebook with all the guns listed, this is in addition to the bound book which also list's assesories that I keep for insurance purposes. The names of the guns are written in ink followed by a list of the items I need to buy for it. I am not happy until I get them. I must have:

Whatever customization I want for the item
Whatever optics I want if any
case
locks for the case
Extra mags ranging from a total of 6 for locap handguns to 30 for hicap rifles
Ammo ranging from 200 for a shotgun or bolt to 2000 for a semi rifle this is good ammo such as winchester ranger hornaday tap etc
slings or atleast 2 different holsters
assorted spare parts

etc etc
this is per firearm, not caliber

It is getting rediculious as the number of firearms I have approaches the tripple digits. I am currently a little behind on the ammo though as I have been shooting and not buying, it is just taking up to much space and when you have a 1/2 dozen ar's 12,000 rnds is allot to keep on hand. There is no reason that I should have the number of pelican cases that I do, it's not like I am gone to take them all out of the safe at one time and transport them unless I move. Most of them still sit new in the box. I'm a little obsessive in this regard I realize, but it makes me feel as if the firearm is complete. If they stop making parts etc I will still be set.

We all know that "too many guns" is an impossible concept. If you want to shoot and care for your guns you will need to have ammunition or the means to produce it, magazines for the ones that require them, cleaning gear to take care of them, cases to take them to the range in etc.
Give it time, you will sooner or later start packing away the consumables.
Good shooting!

Okay, so I'm glad I'm not the only one with this particular sickness.

This year alone I have bought five Brownings. A Gold Turkey 12 ga., 2 Buckmark .22s, a 9mm Hi-power, and an A-bolt in 270 WSM. I got the last three shipped to me about oh, three weeks ago. I haven't even put a scope on the A-Bolt yet, and what am I doing tonight? GOING GUN SHOPPING, with a girlfriend that I have also sucked into this particular vice.

I got a wild hair that I wanted a revolver. Don't know how it happened, but I just got this wild hair and I have to do something about it.

Yep. I don't buy clothes, makeup, shoes, a new car, household goods, CDs or anything else like that. There was a point where people at work were beggin me to buy a safe just to contain the madness. I took care of that little problem a while ago. Trouble is, now it's getting crowded. All I can get into it are small things like handguns. You can even buy the little velcro hanging hootis to put the handgun on the door, in case you're out of shelf space!!! Guess I need some of those.

Guns and hunting trips. That's about it. This girl loves her guns.

Just consider us your merry band of enablers!

AHAHAHHAHAHA. Best quote evAr!
:D

I got 4 out of 6. I share your pain, I know how it is. I always have a need for one some niche that I don't have filled. You know, I live in Texas but I need "this" gun just in case a Polarbear escapes from the zoo. Hey, now I got that covered. Or what gun do I need, to carry concealed while wearing just a bathing suit? That kind of problem will keep me up nights until I go to a gun show and fix it.

I seriously fell off my chair when I read that! That was hysterical. Not because it was sarcastic, but because that is the same tongue-in-cheek I would use to describe myself.

And for those judging me because I like to fondle my new, nubile guns: Screw you guys, they are legal. ;)

I'm going to play with my P-3AT now.

:D :D

And I was feeling bad cause I'm not buying enough guns. All those empty pages in my bound book and the shoping list the BATF guys where so kind to provide.....

Balance, Demise-san (and the rest of you). You must keep your sense of balance--your sense of perspective.

What good is a gun with inadquate accessories? Inadequate ammo? It is close to useless. A longe-range boltgun with no scope? Might as well be a mini or an AK. A CCW pistol without a good holster? A safe queen. A varmit rifle without a bipod (or at least a good sling)? A paper-puncher. Not enough mags? You're almost back to a single-shot.

My testimony: I have not bought a new gun since I got into reloading a few months ago. I'm still playing with components and loads. Must consolidate the base before expanding. (OK, I admit it, cash has been tight).

But its still a true priciple. Acquire, familiarize, accessorize. That is the natural order of things. Acquire, familiarize, accessorize. That's the way to keep order in your safe.
