You may all remember me for asking lots of questions about FAID cards. I live in NJ, I sent in the application in october, and I still havent heard a thing!! Im getting very impatient.. can I call up the station to check the status? I recently went to Las Vegas for vacation and I stopped off at a gun store where they actually let you shoot off machine guns(for a charge). So I shot off a fully automatic M16 and AK47, it was effing AMAZING, and made me wish I lived in Nevada. I cant stand these NJ gun laws! I dont even know if ill ever get the permit! they dont update or fill you in on anything! I dont know whats going on! ahhhhH!!!

calm down. its ok. i went through it all too. it will take about 6 months because they sit on the paperwork. Give them a call, follow up on your references and their paperwork. Just give the chief a kick in the right direction and let him know your gonna be a unholy pain in the butt unless he gets moving. By law its supposed to take 30 days, however, they will say they lost your references paperwork, your jobs paperwork or that the chief is going on vacation or some crap. Just make sure to call them.

Keep consistent, firm, POLITE pressure on your local police to caugh it up.

DO NOT ALIENATE THEM.

You are in a delicate position. While there is a method of appeal for denied FIDs, NJ routinely exploits the fact that there is no recourse for innaction.

That is not eloquence

I would claim it as deft tact.
I think clarity of message holds truth. Makes you wonder if NJ will ever budge in any direction positive without a federal premption of some kind.

I'm not a lawyer but I'm pretty certain that there is a way to force a legal entity to do its job. I don't remember the legal term but what it boils down to is that an official who doesn't do his/her job because they don't want to is breaking the law.

Basicaly you have to go to court and get a judge to order the official to do what they are legally required to do.

Of course making life difficult for the local sheriff doesn't come without consequences. My uncle got caught banging the local sheriff's wife. The sheriff didn't take that well at all and his department started harassing my uncle on a regular basis. Uncle got a lawyer, went to court and judge told the sheriff to knock it off. Sheriff and his dept. ignored order. Uncle left town.

So - like I said - screwing with the sheriff isn't without risk.

Werewolf, I believe you are referring to a "Writ of Mandemus". I suspect it takes a pretty blatant example of neglect to be effective, otherwise, they'll just shrug and point into the bureaucracy and say "I need more resources . . ."

I agree that it's not usually productive to get into a urination contest with the local LE bureaucracy - it's like arguing with idiots - they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Polite, steady pressure is probably teh best approach.

If at all possible get out of that cesspool and leave it to the zombies that like it that way- I've come to the conclusion that in places like NJ, NYC, Mass etc, there are just too many of the living dead in positions of power to ever get things changed- which is ok by me as long as they leave me alone, and there's the rub

Only advise I can offer is to stay away from U-Haul. Their trucks are junk, and lie to you about reservations. Go with Pensky or Budget :neener:

These are the things you must put up with when you live in an oppressive state. You don't have to move to Nevada, Pa. is right across the river in the U.S.A. $2.00 at the border check point, I mean bridge toll booth, gets you in. Our carry permit is so easy to get, it's almost scarey.

I own horses that live in New Jersey. That's as close as I'll ever get to living there myself.

We interrupt the tiresome PRNJ bashing for a little helpful advice...

ANJRPC Responds to Permit Problems

All across New Jersey, townships have stepped over the line when it comes to NJ Firearms ID cards and Pistol Permits. ANJRPC has documented numerous abuses of the law by officials supposedly responsible for complying with it. For example:

*Mr. A. was unable to receive an application for a pistol permit without an interview with the Police Chief (unnecessary per NJ law). Needless to say, the Chief was never available.
*63-year old Mrs. B. went to her local police department to apply for an FID. They said to her “You’re old and don’t need to have a gun – Go home”
*Mr. C. went to have his fingerprints taken only to be told that “We’re out of ink. Come back next month”
*When Miss D. asked if Grief Counseling (after the loss of her parent) was a problem, police told her that her application would be rejected because of “Mental Health issues”
* Mr. E. applied for multiple pistol permits only to be told that two was the limit.

ANJRPC will not sit idle as long as officials fail to perform their duty or worse yet, stand in the way of honest law-abiding gun owners. If you feel you are being given the “run around” or being stone-walled by your local officials, give us a call. ANJRPC will not allow NJ officials to trample your rights. We all know how tough it is already in NJ to own guns – Local officials creating their own version of the law is certainly no help! All of the above cases were resolved favorably for the individual and our actions should help prevent reoccurrences in those areas. But we depend on YOU, the Gun Owner to point out these problems. If you need help, or know of an issue with your town, please call ANJRPC’s Legal Affairs Committee Member Mike Bodner at (973) 293-8239.

Indeed, there it is. Which is why responsible citizens in those states need to pay more attention and get more politically involved.

It's funny how Mass always listed amongst the worst states, but at least there you can jump through hoops and carry. Here, you can't carry unless you have dirt on some politico.

when I was a kid in the early 70's & late 60's

my cousins and I would take 20 guage shotguns and walk a mile to a quarry and blast at tin cans...some where near Keansburg NJ.
Can you imagaine that now!

Werewolf & others re: Writ of mandemus for FIDS:

It's not going to happen.

The judiciary decided long ago that despite the generous time limit prescribed by the statute, it was in the interest of society that the police be given as much time as they want to perform a thorough background check.

In all honesty, the degree of judicial collusion in that state on political issues is nauseating, and is one of the more significant factors in that state's terminal degeneration.
