Occaisionally, the gun club I belong to has a Rotten Egg Shoot. We hang eggs that are superglued to strings and try to shoot them with .22's as they swing in the wind. We have them hung at 25 and 50 yards.

Now I had gotten one of those Wally World Ruger 10/22 Rifles, the one with the long barrel as opposed to the carbine length, but I had not shot it yet.

Wednesday evening we had our meeting and a Rotten Egg Shoot. They had eggs now at 100 yards as well as 50 and 25 yards.

I was hitting, consistently, once I figured out where to hold, the eggs at 100 yards.

With iron sights. No scope. :what:

I was one happy camper! :D I was also outshooting custom 10/22's with scopes. Now that, really made me happy! :D

In some of those "egg shoots" you have to eat the raw egg if you miss :).

A buddy of mine who is big into black powder bullseyed an egg at 100 yards offhand with a T/C Renegade .54 caliber muzzleloader. The egg was history :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

Congratulations

That is fine shooting and you have a right to be proud of your skill.

gbran, that was freekin halarious! It depends on the shooter thats shooting the rifle, not the scope/accesories. and apperatly you are doing a good job becuase hitting an egg at 100 yards w/ a .22 LR is outstanding. Not to mention if it was swinging in the wind!

good job man...

you gotta break some eggs if you are gonna make an omelette...

otherwise im calling PETA cause eggs are people too!

jk

Oh Nooooooooo!!!!!

We're in the frying pan now. Our hard shells will be cracked if you are going to sic PETA on us! :(

What were we thinking? :what:

We have enough wildlife in the area that they feed on the eggs and we have little cleanup other than the strings.

Thanks for the comments. It sure isn't young eyes. And it sure wasn't skill. I think it was the rifle was more than anything. If this had been a regular competition, I doubt I would be keeping the bullets in this county, much less the range. (Okay, that's an exageration)

Come to think of it, the rifle version has that extra inch on the stock from the recoil pad (yes, it has a recoil pad installed on it - came that way) and the front sight being farther out was easier to see. However, to hold properly on the eggs, I had to keep it so that it looked like a mini crescent moon over the front bead. The front sight was covering those eggs at 100 yards. I wish they had used Extra Large and not the cheaper mediums! :D

The Doc is out now.
