Was looking for something different. Had all modern firearms. Got to reading this forum and started researching. Since I already had two Rugers, I purchased an Old Army SS 7.5 with the fixed sight. Took it to the range today and was very impressed with the accuracy. I had a jam, but was able to dislodge the cap fragment that got stuck between the cylinder and frame. I used the Pyrodex pellets, but will use powder on my next outing. All the threads I read made the difference with my first outing. Alot of good information that was made available in one place. One question I do have. When cocking the revolver for the next shot is it advisable to point the gun upward to allow the spent cap to fall out? I wasn't doing this and I think this may have been the reason for the jam. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Removing expended caps

I've pretty much always rolled the gun upward and to the right to dump expended caps; it's pretty much automatic any more. I'm not sure I could keep from doing it if I wanted to. I don't use a very exaggerated motion, however, it doesn't always work, either.

Welcome aboard! It's a fun addiction. Good choice on guns too! Most of us revolver shooters have had to find a technique that lets the cap fragments fall free as we cock the gun. I also point mine up and shake it to the right slightly. It works most of the time. I suppose cap jams are an authentic part of the experience and a big part of why cartridge arms were adopted so quickly.
