RAMI is a great pistola...but "full size" it is not. :D

Still not a full size but the Rami upper on a PCR lower works for me :)

I'm not a large guy and can easily conceal a CZ75 in the winter. I don't even attempt it when the weather is warm. A subcompact is hard enough to conceal.

I would definitely go for the weight advantages of a polymer frame in a full size carry gun. I'm also more comfortable with a DA/SA trigger but that's just me. I'm very interested in the Canik TP9v2 right now. It looks like it might have everything I'd want in a utilitarian service-sized pistol.

I have a Springfield Armory XD Compact Tactical (5" bbl, compact grip) that, when I carry it in an IWB holster, conceals beautifully. In my experience, the hard thing to conceal is the heel of a full length grip. I use a compact magazine (9 shots of .45 ACP) with a Pearce Grip extender that keeps the heel of the grip compact but gives a full hand grip at the toe. My extra mags are full length 13-round magazines with extended sleeves to give the same grip size as the full size XD Tactical.

My usual carry is a SAI XDsc, also with a Pearce Grip extender for the short mag and a full length mag for a reload. This pistol has a 3" bbl and compact grip but I shoot it as effectively as my full size service model. I usually wear this gun in an OWB holster, either a BladeTech Eclipse or a wonderful Kydex and leather holster from Firearmholster.com. As I'm 6'1", 240#, concealment either way is no issue.

I noted that you wanted a 9mm, which is a perfectly good choice with the right ammo. I'm a .45 ACP and .40 S&W guy (I started using a .45 ACP in 1968 and went to the .40 S&W when I went to compact pistols)), mostly out of old habits. Any one of these calibers with appropriate "defense" ammo will prove satisfactory.

IMHO, successful concealment of a full size service pistol is mostly a function of your holster. For many years I carried a Government Model 1911 in an Askins IWB holster. I'll consider one of the new LW Commander models from Colt as I'm very comfortable with 1911s carried "cocked & locked".

In all, your choice should be made on what feels right to you and has the features you consider priorities. With the right holster, you'll do fine.

Good luck,

FH

I have a S&W M&P 9mm and a Glock 17. I carry a 9mm Shield but if I was going to carry a full size gun I would go with a Glock 19. For me my M&P 9mm or Glock 17 are too big to carry concealed all day. Some people carry full sized concealed without any problems or discomfort.

Dragon, I really didn't know that would work - does it engage the decocker the same way? How many rounds have you run through this setup and how does it work? interesting idea. :) The CZ PCR has long been on of my ideal CCW pistols, everything you need and nothing you don't. Oddly enough, I haven't carried a PCR in years, but would again in a heartbeat. It's like the Glock 19 everyone here insists on recommending to the vanished OP, compact but big enough for full size duty, plenty of ammo and controllability in an easily concealable size. I'm just odd that I like REALLY full size guns - here is an old photo of my CZ SP-01 Phantom in a High Noon Holsters Down Under IWB rig, hides very easily under a t-shirt even in Arizona summers.

This is the CZ P-09, (lovingly upgraded by Cajun Gun Works!), in a High Noon Hybrid rig, the Close Encounter - another easy hide. :)

I didn't build it. But they didn't just go together like Legos. The decocker does work but that's one of the pieces that was modified to work. It has a host of CGW parts in it as well.

The builder put 500 through it. I have another 700 through it. It's been utterly reliable and I carry it on and off. It's hard to stop carrying a PPS and I don't know if I ever will. This one has come the closest.

Im looking into the barreta tip up pistols. its as smaller caliber but its reliable , I would of liked it to be 9mm . I dont personal have one .
