I plan on buying a new handgun soon and have decided on either the 90-two or XDm the caliber is unimportant to me as I like both a 9mm and 40 S&W, I am aware of most of the differences in the two guns im just looking for a few first hand opinions on the two my hands are medium in size

I have the XDm in .45 ACP. One of the main reasons I do is because of its larger size and I have large hands. Honestly and objectively, the advertised "Match Grade" Barrel will need a "Match Grade" trigger to see fruition. There are several kits as advertised on XDTalk forum and I have the Powder River Precision "Match Easy" trigger kit. I have no pre-travel or overtravel and the reset is much shorter and trigger pull is around 4#. I consider my XDm to be exceptionally accurate giving some legitimacy to the match grade barrel claim. The trigger kit is what makes the difference. Not that there is any problem with the stock trigger, but if you want to see that match grade accuracy the trigger kit is a great investment.

The trigger on the 90-Two can be made better as well but will cost you more $ to get it to the level of what can be achieved with the PRP kit in the XDm. The interchangeable backstraps are definitely a bonus for you if you have medium hands whereas there isn't much you can do about those on the 90-Two. ;)

The trigger on the 90-two can be improved for ~$10 with a "D" spring swap. They also have interchangeable backstrap but usually have to be ordered from BUSA.

The Beretta has a fully swappable sub-grip that will turn it from a FS to a Vertec.

The 90-Two is in my opinion, the nicest, most beautiful handgun avaliable.

It is the pride of my safe.

I have two 92A1s, two M9A1s, and I previously owned two 90-Twos. I tried to like the 90-Two, but the grip really, really sucks. I ended up selling the 90-Two each time. I couldn't like the gun because of the grip.

There are NO aftermarket grips, and the factory grip is just too slippery. That's the biggest complaint ya see over and over about the 90-Two.

Also, there IS a replaceable "thin" grip for the gun. It's been unobtainable for over the past year - but they JUST finally hit the US shores with another batch. So, you better order one ASAP if ya ant one.

I'd suggest getting the 92A1. It has the updated features of the 90-Two, but it has the regular 92FS grip. So, ANY 92 grips will fit the gun. Also, the 92A1 comes with THREE 17 round mags.

My fingers are medium length I suppose, but my hands are chubby so I wear a large glove most of the time.

The XDm fits my hand better than any pistol I've tried, short of a 1911 maybe.

I prefer the design, styling and pretty much all aspects of the XD better than the Beretta. I suggest you try shooting them both if possible. If shooting them is not possible, at least try to dry-fire and handle them at your local gun store.

The XDM is a good gun, you shouldn't ever have any problems with it...then again it is pretty much the same with the 92. Either one will serve you well, personally I prefer the XDM for looks and feel.

Thanks everyone from what I can tell bout 2/3rds of everyone prefers the xd or xdm i've actually had the chance to hold them both a bit and prefer the xdm thanks for the info

I would always choose the Beretta over the Springfield XD or XDM, however I would opt out of the 90-two and in it's place I would purchase either an Italian manufactured 92FS, or an M9A1.....

I love my XDm-9. I sent the slide away to have fiber optic sights added. Also added Xtreme grips (pictured below) to make it a little bit more comfortable. Still toying with the idea of a PRP trigger kit to shorten the pull and reset.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

What about the Hogue rubber sleeve?

I wouldn't ever spend my money on a Beretta. Just not my taste. I also have a bad taste from the M9.

My XDm is about perfect for what I want. I say about, because it needs a better trigger. I will be sending it off to get a trigger job done if I ever stop carrying it, but in the meantime, it's nearly as accurate as my 1911s and I shoot it just as well.

Thos will work - I just hate them. I don't like the finger grooves and palm swells. Makes the grip too big for my hand

I've owned an XDM in 40. Liked it. Reliable, accurate and a pleasure to shoot. However, I prefer glocks and sold it to pick up another glock.

I've owned a beretta 96. Awesome gun. I sold it to buy my first 1911. I wish I would have kept that one, it is the only handgun that I regret selling. Unfortunately, shipwreck keeps posting his infamous "wheel of berettas" just to remind me of that. :cuss: The 90 two is even more favorable to me than the 96....so I'd pick the 90 two hands down.

Both are great guns, both are reliable, both are accurate, neither can conceal well on my body type with my method of dress and both fit my size medium to large Mechanix glove wearing hands just fine.

One way you could look at it is do you want to have all of the US service pistols? 1911, m9, maybe some of the older revolvers. History type aspect.

Or

What do you shoot better? Striker or hammer? Which do you have the most of or already have?

I try to get some variety in my firearms though.

I love the XD's grip and trigger (for a striker fired gun that is). Never held a beretta though. I should probably get on that.

XDM. My experience has been completely positive with my XDM .40, I've got almost 4k rounds downrange and the gun has jammed twice during the first 100 rounds (I consider this acceptable and believe in a 200 round break in period).

I trust it completely. As with anything, make sure to test it before counting on it. Take whatever you choose outside after grabbing one of those 250 round value packs from your local Walmart and blast away. You'll get a good idea if the gun is trustworthy or not.

I would go with the XDM any day of the week. To quote one of my favorite gunwriters, Massad Ayoob: "It grips the hand like a Yorkshire Terrier with anger management issues." The trigger is workable, especially compared with the infamous S&W M&P trigger, or (dare I sully my fingers to type it), the Sigma. :what: :what: However, there are kits available to clean it up to the point of excellence. Go with what you want, mind you, but IMHO, the XDM is a far superior firearm.
