re: Barrett 416...

>>>hrm. get the barrett .416.. but then that's just because i want to play with it <<<<

COST from Barrett on the new .416 is $3490 and there is NO ammo available except for T&E.

COST from Barrett on a standard 50 is $2890 shipped with starlight case, Barrett rings, bipod and Bushnell 3-9 crappy scope that comes with it. Unfortunately they dropped the included 80 rds of ammo that acompanied the rifle earlier.

Still the cartridge is very similar to the .408 cheyenne (which is a .416 rigby) and can shoot 1/8 moa with handloads. The downside of the .408 cheyenne is $6.50 a SINGLE round. Pick your poisen? (Or your pocket).....Either way I think the .416 in 3-5 years time will be a viable insanely cool tack driver! The price of the rifle and the ammo shouldl seriously come down as well.

good luck either way!

snicker ;) sorry it was an inside gag between silver, calsushi, and chuxter ;) i wasnt seriously telling him to get it ;)

First $1000. Absolutely, a reloading press! It will pay you back for decades.

Second $1000. And a Smith 625JM with around 50 moonclips of .45acp. You won't ever have to worry about chasing your bass after that!

Third $1000. a pair of SA XD's in 9mm.

Fourth $1000. A hunting vacation or a week at some combat school.

I misread that last line as a euphemism.

Double-fisting Berettas? At least go classy and get 1911's!

Aaaaand...hate to be a party-pooper,but 8 grand is a lot of rent,gas,and groceries. Apparently you ain't married.:D

=P yup not married

but i am heavily in debt. well.. i guess not that badly.

13k student loan 13k car loan.

could be worse I suppose. my only vices are cheaperthandirt.com and sportsmansguide.com.

well, the .416 sounds real good but that remaining 4k will literally go up in smoke after a few trips to the range. that - and I don't even know how I'd go about trying to buy such a gun. god knows hardly anybody around here sells anything that shoots bigger than .308. besides, there's no where I'd be able to shoot at. the outdoor range i go to is well over 50 miles away, and because of forestry laws i don't know if they'll allow .416. I seem to recall .50 being banned for a while because supposedly it would start forest fires. could be because the majority of .50 at the time was steel-jacketed?

the pair of 1911s sounds really good - a les baer and a kimber in the other hand? hm. that's neat! but 1911s seem more like stallone-style, not the john woo-style that i'm having fantasies about.

want to hear something really scary?

just as I was having second thoughts, I ran into this online:

http://www.ammoman.com/close_outs.htm

scroll all the way to the bottom.

hint: in CA, ALL guns have to be DROS'ed (registered with dept of justice). BUT while handguns need individual dros'es, @ $35 a piece, an unlimited amount of long guns can be dros'ed on a single dros....

How about the AB500 armor and a Springfield Armory M1A, and a few cases of surplus .308 ammo? :D

A weekend of blasting the steel with .308 and all your troubles will melt away.

>>>kimber's customer service is known to be horrible. if customer service matters to you, there is no better than springfield armory or smith and wesson<<<<

+1

Absolutely! 1000% right! And Springfield dosen't use any plastic parts as well....

First my condolences -- both for living in the PRK, and for having the misfortune of making a serious vocational error. :D Sorry, I taught for 16 years in NorCal (Bay & Sac areas -- actually have a button that says, "Obviously, I've made a serious vocational error" that I used to wear sometimes for back-to-school or report card nights. Few of the parents got it -- laughed). Good luck to you! Saw good suggestions. Short of moving, get lots of loading supplies, perhaps some training in whatever techniques you're interested in, but definitely pay down debt and plan for the future. I was amazed at how much money I had as a single teacher after I paid off credit cards and vehicle. Bought a house and had enough left to golf, go out with friends, and buy a gun pretty much whenever I felt like it. (I then tossed all that, left the state, and got married. Call it temporary or permanent insanity, but she's really a keeper.)

toys

i dont remember where they are, but there is a tripod mounted 22 full auto belt fed, and some one else makes and sell a very nice looking 22 belt fed rifle. they are about 3000 plus.
