As for the Brits' MBR... The Lee-Enfield Rifle No1MkIII or III* was used by the "colonial" troops, as well as the Brits early war, in the Med or Africa. The Rifle No4MkI or I* was used for the rest of the war.
Rifle No5Mk1 (AKA the "Jungle Carbine"), was first produced in 1944.
Note: the above are generalizations, YMMV.
