AR15s are so sexy, I'd hate to be caught looking at one at work. click on the picture to see her lovely figure in high resolution.

I know virtually nothing about AR15s or even this particular one except that it is a Stag Arms M4gery type 16" with a chromed barrel and a removable handle. I plan on tricking it out with some nice accessories in the future, including a sling, a bipod, and some nice optics, depending on what I learn is possible with my particular instance of this rifle. I also want to get a flat top Rock River Arms 24" stainless steel varmint upper in the future, as I hear they are very accurate out several hundred yards (prairie dog defense rifle?)! The exciting thing for me is that PA hunting law allows for amputees such as myself to hunt with semi-autos, so I plan on taking full advantage of that privilege to help control the groundhog population, even if i don't get out to South Dakota for prairie dogs.

I'm about to clean and lube it up for the first time. This is a little bit intimidating but I plan on using the internet as a resource:

I may have to ask you guys for help if something goes wrong. I have Hoppes #9 solvent, Weapon Shield, some Hoppes gun oil, and a 35 piece universal handgun/rifle cleaning kit. Do you think just using Weapon Shield will be sufficient? Are there specific things I need to buy to clean and lube my AR properly?

I'm open to all advice about all aspects of use and care. Hit me up!

Peace (through superior firepower),

R.B.

Congrats on the new AR!

I use an OTIS kit and Remoil, both do an awesome job for me and has kept my bushmaster going at 100%.

But it looks you got everything down! Good luck and enjoy!

Nice rifle! Better watch out for BRD! I bought my first one a year ago, I just built two more last week. I am looking for another as I am typing. There are just so many options available. I might even replace my bolt action with a AR in 6.8 or 6.5. What to do...

I clean and maintain mine with Hoppes as well, but you'll want a copper solvent too. Stag's model 6 upper is all they claim, 0.5 MOA of squirrel judgement and heavy.

Very nice!

AR's like to run a little wet inside. Mostly I do what the military does, use Breakfree CLP for both clean and lube, although I do use a touch of Tetra grease on the cam pin. Zero malfunctions so far in my Stag type 2 carbine.

you did great, stag makes great ar varients, and i know that you will be happy with it. good choices in the chrome lining and the removable carry handle as well, that will allow you more options for mounting optics and the like.

Now go get about 10 more 30 round magazines! I like Brownell's.

The best way to get to know the gun is to shoot it and shoot it some more. Practice shooting from both shoulders and from prone, kneeling, sitting, and standing.

For cleaning I recommend some kind of bore guide. One of the big reasons rifles lose accuracy is damage to the crown.

I don't know where you live, but a carbine or "urban rifle" course might be just the ticket, from someone such as TDSA, USSA, Thunder Ranch, Gunsite, etc.

For a varminter you will want a high powered scope and a good trigger job.

There's a company that makes a vertical front grip with a built in bipod. It's a cool gadget.

I don't see why a bipod is such a strange idea. Even a carbine is still firing a rifle round capable of accurate shooting out to several hundred yards.

righteousbarbarian, I always make sure the AR15s on my desktop wallpaper at work are held by US soldiers in uniform (and usually female ones) and I call 'unpatriotic Communist' on anybody that blubbers about it.

Nice rig.

If you ever get tired of it, just drop it off here. :)

Congratulations!

I also use CLP which is what the military uses (afaik). My marine buddy completely soaks the bcg (bolt carrier group). It makes a mess but he says it's the way to do it. There is a lubrication guide somewhere online that has all the info you need to properly lube your rifle.

Congrats on the the purchase!

Better watch out for BRD!

Someone should have told me about black rifle disease before I got my feet wet. I built my first 1 month ago or so and am planning on at least 3 more in the next month or two.

New toys are great ~ congratulations !!

My 6920 looked just like your AR when I pulled it from it's box :D

I don't know if Wal Mart carries them, though my Wal Mart has plenty of other cleaning supplies. By the way, I like the Dewey one piece cleaning rods a lot better than the jointed aluminum ones you normally get at Wal Mart.

Here's the kind of bore guide that slips over the muzzle:

And then there's this kind, which works from the breech. I don't have one and don't know which kind is better. I guess you could use both.
