I've got a complete CMMG lower on the way, but it won't be here for at least a week. So, I was wondering if those of you who have an AR/M4gery with a Teflon coated-lower wouldn't mind posting a pic of either your lower, or complete rifle? ;)

I plan on getting an LMT upper next month, which I have read does not match the finish of this LAR-made lower. But, I would really love to see what this parked/teflon combo would look like anyways. Thanks!

PS - Just so you know, AR15.com will not let me use their search engine because I use a freebie Yahoo! account for my email. The horror! Otherwise I would do a search over there. And yes, I have searched THR (and TFL), and I turned up diddlypoo... :uhoh:

Second! I'm planning a CMMG build, but can't seem to find many pictures of that shiny teflon finish they use, even on AR15.com. is it really as shiny as it looks in the above picture?

Pictures won't really show a difference in a plain old AR15 lower and a teflon coated lower.

Many companies use a teflon finish though.

Thanks for the pics, jpwilly! :)

So will the teflon-coated lower just be a glossier black as compared to a "plain old" parked finish?

Most likely.

My DPMS lower was suppose to have had a teflon finish but I saw no difference between it and my other lowers...

I live in CA and have to put-up with my pre-ban annodized ARs.

What's the purpose of a Teflon finish?

Thats what I'm wondering.Other than possibly being easier to clean (or cook eggs on :)), I dont see what benefit it could be, and even the cleaning thing seems like it would be too minimal to be noticed.Unless I know Teflon scratches pretty easy, so I cant imagine its a durability of finish kind of thing either....
Anyboy know what the purpose is?

This is a Teflon overcoat on a DPMS lower and Evolution Gun Works flat top upper.
Increased lubricity is the main reason for a Teflon Surface coating.
If you use a Teflon based lubricant the two attract and make the surfaces slicker with less lubricant needed on reapplications.
I suppose the coating makes clean-up a bit easier but since I haven't thought that receivers are all that hard to clean to begin with I will withold further comment.
As for scratching, using a Teflon based oil will make any scratches all but disappear.
You can see the color difference between the Teflon coated receivers and the smaller parts.

Didnt know that.If thats the case, then I can definitely see the appeal. It would be nice to have a finish where one could basically wipe away all the little inevitable scratches.
