I'm trying to find what I need to do in order to bring my firearm in the US during my vacation. I'm looking at a form that is required for non-immigrant aliens importing a firearm for a short period of time but I'm not an alien, I'm a US citizen living abroad. What is the form required to import a firearm for a short period of time (not selling it). The airline will take care of everything but the government forms. Is there an ATF form required for non-resident US citizens that import a firearm for a short period of time or should I fill the form required for non-immigrant aliens? Also, once in the US, will I be able to open carry in states such as Maine without being a US resident?

Wdlsguy, the form speaks of citizens returning to the US. Does that include citizens only returning for a short time, not wishing to reside permanently? But it does look like the right form. Do you think asking my embassy would facilitate things or give me problems?

Well after reading the thing one more time I'm starting to understand what to do. Thanks, I'll be sending the form later. Seems to be not so hard to import a firearm in the end, now let's see if it get the permit.

Be sure to have the form on hand when clearing customs. Best of luck and welcome back.
