So who's this Bert Guy at www.GatlinGun.com? If they're really trying to "honor" the victims by somehow shunning guns, why not just close down the business all together? If we were to follow the train of thought, if you are in the business, you're obviously "dishonoring" the victims, so you must shut down the business all together.

I Phoned in

I phoned in on Tom's Gun Talk radio show today (sometime in the third hour) and raised the issued of the "gunless gun show."

We got about, oh, three minutes of airtime on it.

One of his guests remarked that, after the word gets out, they "could set a new attendance record."

Any of you in Northern/Western Nevada get to hear that segment?

Canceled

I'm sure it will come as a complete shock, announced on the radio last night and this morning: The Boomtown Gun Show has been canceled.

No explanation given beyond the fact that many vendors were demanding their money back (having paid for one or more tables where . . . they would be unable to display their wares).

So, no more "gunless gun show."

I wonder what's next for the promoters? Does that do permanent damage to their credibility?

Given that this show isn't happening now, when's the next ACTUAL gun show in our area?

When Rosie dies of overeating, Food Lion plans to have nothing but empty shelves out of respect!

Maybe the mental institutions should not allow their patients outside the building where people might see them. I think this is a more suitable response to the VT murders. Stupid, yes. But more appropriate.

I wonder if they'll jack up table prices for the next shows to pay for all the marketing money they wasted on this show.

How many of the potential show patrons might have been people seeking to arm themselves in light of the VT tragedy?

If anyone is in the area of the show they need to stand outside with a sign that proclaims that this is a gunless gunshow so folks will not pay the admission and get involved in trying to get their money back.

OOps sorry didn't read page two before answering the post. My bad

This is not right, we cannot cave into the blissninnies, the best thing we can do is keep on the way we are and still support the families, it does not mean that we have to drop our way of life because it offends someone.

thing is, while some people travel the gun show circut for fun, most do it for a way to sell their wares and advertize their shop/specialty. Canceling a show at this late of a date allows for no rescheduling a show on the other side of the state.

I think vendors should be able to go after whoever made the 'no guns' decision for financial losses

This might be an utterly silly thought, but wouldn't a donation to the families from the proceeds been a better way of showing respect?

Perhaps the person who made this decision knows Karen Reilly from Altoona, PA who started another wildly controversial thread titled "For Safety, Get Rid of Guns". Oh, I forgot--guns kill people--silly me! Mental illness never killed anybody. :banghead: If we could just figure out a way to prevent these severly ill people from killing/hurting others, there would be very little controversy over firearms. We have walked on the moon, we have a space station, we can split the atom, we can save the world (almost), but we can't keep deadly weapons out of the hands of mentally ill people? Ok, I'll shut up--we all know this is a VERY complex issue with no easy solution. :(

Once again someone in the gun industry/shooting comunity is accepting blame for something that we didn't do. If every vendor, and every would be customer were to not show up, the buisness would be out a lot of money that people would have been willing to spend, how does that honor anyone? If he really wanted to help he would have donated proceeds. It would be about the same to go to your favorite local chinese restraunt only to find they are no longer serving chinese food to basically "apolagise" for the shooters ancestry, which I belive would be insulting to a community that had nothing to do with what happened at VT.

Especially since the shooter was South Korean. :neener:

Good point, though. Definately a flawed business decision and now its been cancelled so everybody loses!

Free CCW classes to anyone of legal age, with valid student ID, would be more appropo, in my opinion. As the NRA says, (regardless of what anyone thinks of thier policies), REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM!
