I was having a problem on two of my milsurps: both were shooting way too high at 50-100 yards!

The rifles in question are a Mauser 98k and a Mosin Nagant M38....

My fix was rather simple. I took two-part epoxy and created a small droplet on the front sight posts. I flipped the rifles upside down, so the drop would dry tring to stretch itself longer, rather than puddle on the top of the post. Next, I filed the side of the droplet to match the post, and squared it all up. After painting the epoxy black, I took it to the range along with the file so I could make adjustments.

Both rifles were luckily right on at 100! I think this was alot easier than buying a tall sight and replacing the factory one. You can't tell what I've done unless you really get right up on the sight and know what to look for!

I've done this to a M48 yugo and it worked very well for me also. I wish I had thought about turnin the gun upside down as you did though.

I took a different approach and filed the slot in th rear sight. It's not perfectly even but when I blacken them it's pretty good and the shots are on at 100 yards. I'd like to get a pro smith to fix all of this but it's an old rifle and I only spent 80.00 on it.

I took a MN 91/30 that was shooting about 8" high and 7" right (arsenal zero wih bayonet) and epoxied a small piece of fiber optic sight on top of the post. Helped with zero, and the green dot helps with quick aquisition.

Hmm, a good idea. I'll have to try this on my M44 which shoots high even with the rear sights at its lowest

For the mausers

I recommend tapping the barly corn front sight out and replacing with a higher swedish mauser blade sight - fits the same dovetail and provides a superior sight picture.

Also, shooting heavier rounds (ie: 198 grain loads) in the 8mm will lower point of impact.

I didnt know about the swedish sight blade. If this ever breaks or wears off, I will get that.

The Mauser was the worst. It would be over a foot high at 50 yards! I only hope that a swede sight could tame that.
