Impulse buy - Kel Tec PF9

Most of use buy the pf-9 for several reasons. It is light weight, the lcp is heavier. The pf-9 has a lower cost, the lcp is about 85 bucks higher retail and the pf-9 can be bought around $ 240. And if you have a problem , kt has best cs and sends many parts to you if that helps like recoil springs and even barrels as they were upgraded in years past if you need one. And this is from a owner of 5 different rugers. Just no ruger for carry.

I have carried my pf-9 for 2 1/2 years too. It has been as relyable as any pistol can be with never any problems. I own a kahr cw9 and a baby glock and still find I go to the pf-9 as my number 1 pistol to carry.

Hopefully you have better luck than I did. I owned two and tried to give them a chance but I just did not have any luck. They are so slim and carry perfectly but every time I shot the magazine would pop out (both pistols w/ and w/o pinky extensions)

Good luck though, hopefully I just got all the lemons.

Hickok45 did a video of this and the LC9. He mentions something about the micro chip installed causing the random mag ejections (of course he's kidding)

I owned one years back when I was new to handgunning. I sold it after a few months - it is not a good beginners' gun. But after owning a dozen handguns and finally understanding the physics and art of shooting, I decided to buy one and have never looked back. CHeap, relaible and deadly!

FWIW, my Kel-Tec .380 has been about perfect, unlike my POS LCP I used to have. It went back to the factory three times before they refunded me, and they were jerky about it too.

I don't quite get why the PF9 has a rail, though.

What for on a CCW? That's ridiculous. Anyone here who owns a PF9 ever use the rail?

FYI, it is quite possible to carry a concealed weapon into an area that is dark ...

... and, yes, there was a period when my PF9 sported a laser because I was periodically moving thru dark areas. I "trained" my DiSantis Nemesis holster so that it would accomodate the pistol with the laser. I finally decided that I did not need the laser anymore (some of my movement patterns changed) and I uninstalled the laser and bought a new Nemesis ... saved the "trained" one along with the laser in the south gunsafe.

Funny, I was just looking at the PF-9 as I'll be changing my mode of dress to slacks/tucked shirt now. I'm not a fan of .380, but most of my slacks aren't roomy enough for my XD in an IWB holster.

It looks like about the smallest/lightest pocket 9mm out there, and the price is right, if I can actually find one.

I guess some of the lasers out now are very small and if your eyes ain't as sharp as they once were a little micro size lasers would be a nice add on in the pocket.

As far as the laser rail, to me it's just an unneeded sharp edge to get caught on something. IMHO a CCW should have smooth, melted edges.

<shrug> So get out an emory board and smooth any of the areas that you think are too sharp.

Heck, with the nature of that polymer frame, most folks are probably going to be smoothing areas other than the rail ... I know that I did, with both my PF-9 and P3-AT.

The only place on my PF-9 rail that is "sharp" is on the corners of the groove cut under the "chin". I have never experienced them catching on anything but they would be very easy to smooth.

PX15, we seem to have very similar taste in guns. However the only time i choose the LC9 over my P2000sk is when dress won't allow.

Although it has a couple of features i dont care for, most notably the mag release safety, i prefer my LC9 over my PF9. Its slightly bigger which makes it easier to shoot but still plenty small enough to pocket carry. I got one bc my PF9 is somewhat finicky with ammo. Don't get me wrong, the PF9 is great value but just be sure to adequately test it with whatever ammo you will be carrying. And keep the barrel coated in oil or it will corrode quickly.

I took mine out this weekend after not firing it for over a year. I forgot how accurate it is, and how much fun it is to shoot.

You made a great choice!

That's how I got mine, too, by "impulse buy".. stopped into the LGS while working to look at CC holsters (even though I knew he wouldn't have any I could use, since I'm left-handed.) Walked out about 40 minutes later with the PF9. That was just over a year ago, and it's pretty much been my EDC since about a month later, after I had "shot it in."
It's on me pretty much anytime I'm out of bed and dressed.

Been carrying mine everyday, shoots everytime, conceals like a dream, no stupid external safeties to worry about. .88 inches wide, 12.7 ounces... what more could you ever want in a subcompact 9mm? :)
