Kel-Tec's upcoming PF-9 looks like a nifty CCW gun (for anyone who's not seen it mentioned several times on this forum: http://www.kel-tec.com/pf9.html), and I'm curious about it.

I'm hoping that someone (anyone?) is planning to get one soon and can provide a report; I am at the moment (slowly) seeking a carry pistol, and have been impressed by the P11. The trigger on the ones I've handled hasn't even been as bad as I'd been led to expect, and it fits my smallish hands fine. It doesn't feel like the Kahr next to it at the local sporting goods store, but I don't know that it feels $400 worth of inferior. [And may I just say in advance "Well, how much is your life worth?!" -- heard it :)]

What i'd really like is for Kel-Tec to make a few of their nifty little guns in .45 (like the sub 2000, and a enlarged-as-needed PF9 -- a PF45 would be great, even if it held only 6 rounds).

Keltec PF9

There seems to be a lot of people standing in line waiting to buy a Keltec PF9. I am one of them! They have not been released yet.

Count Me In!

I've never had a problem with their P-32, never bothered with the PA3T as a consequence, but will buy a PF-9.

Why not? If its a reliable pocket nine half the price of the Kahr's, then I'll stand in line for them.

Or who knows, mayve Kahr would have to reduce prices to remain competitive?

i will wait for all the R&D testing by guys here before i buy one.

it seems k.t. is known for putting a product out in the field for testing and then fixing the bugs.......

im nobodys guinee pig so i will wait a year or so for you guys to tell me whats wrong with it........

As I understand it the PF-9 has the trigger adapted from the P3AT, light double action type unit. It also appears to be a melding of their P-11 and P3AT; hopefully this means little to no bugs to work out. I'll buy one when they ship.

i am considering one. i am a big fan of kel tec. i own a P3AT, and the PF9 looks like a nice summer gun for husky fellows like myself.

they make a quality no-frills gun at an affordable price. what's not to love?

No more K-T's for me. Too many problems with the P-32 jamming, either with rimlock, or FTF.

While I could pull my P-11's trigger two or three times, forget ten in a row! It'd take me a year to fire 50 without finger exercises :uhoh:

Got rid of the two K-T's I've had, and will have no more!

Now I have two real weapons,

---------
XD-9 16+1 in a tight group will always do the job with a couple of spare mags.
XD-45ACP 13+1 of pure 230 gr. knockdown power with a couple of spare mags.

I planned to buy one but when I found out the gun wouldn't be available for quite some time I bought a 642 instead. I couldn't be happier.

The rimlock is fixable with a magazine mod, and happens in all 32 ACP pistols, not just Kel-Tecs.

I also got rid of my P-11 because of the bad trigger, but thats because I bought the P3AT with a much better trigger and decided I no longer needed the P-11. However, I never had a problem going thru 50-100 rounds at a time at the range and staying accurate.

My P3AT has been flawless out of the box with nothing more than the standard initial cleaning and subsequent post range trip cleanings. You might give the P3AT a try, its a very well made pistol.

The two "real weapons" that are stated in your sig line are both full size service pistols and can in no way be compared to the ultra compact concealable pistols Kel-Tec specializes in.

I understand your frustrations with the P-32 and that the P-11's trigger is heavy for you - it is for many folks, myself included. That said you still don't need to bash any particular brand and imply that their products aren't "real weapons."

As for the PF-9, I have been so impressed with the P3AT that I can't wait until the PF-9 gets here so I can buy one.

As alluded to earlier, it rarely pays to be an early adopter of Kel-Tec products. Whenever this gun becomes available, you should plan on waiting a year, minimum, for the kinks to be worked out or the workarounds perfected. When the product is mature, K-T makes fine stuff for the price and intended purpose. But their new products have a troubled history--nothing you want to deal with in a CC gun.

PS: Your request for a micro-.45 is common enough, but there is a point of diminishing returns with slowing down .45acp. Big and slow can become big and too slow. While I greatly prefer .45 (and 10mm and 357SIG) over 9mm for carry, in a tiny barrel I think I'd take 9mm over .45acp. YMMV.

If it wasn't for the fact that Kel Tecs are not generally MD legal and I doubt this one will be I'd probably buy one.

The P11 and P40 are MD legal, but since Kel Tec doesn't ship with a fired shell casing from the factory they are only legal as used guns. The two smaller models aren't even MD legal used (they aren't on the MD State Police approved firearms list) so I doubt that Kel Tec will go through the trouble of having this one approved for MD sale.

If I ever leave this cess pool or the laws change I'll probably be buying one (or one of the other two small Kel Tecs- I especially like the P32 having shot one, though the P3AT interests me as well).

I'll have to look at one in person and then i'll
make up my mine.I do like the ideal of a
lighter more compact 9mm than my FM 95
hi power clone.

Maryland: Nice in some ways, but ...

It's funny; I grew up in Maryland, fairly oblivious to certain things about it. At age 18, I went away to college (which ended up being split between the Universities of Texas and Michigan), and have lived several places since graduating from UT Austin. Because of its tax structure and gun laws, I have no interest in living in Maryland at the moment; if it weren't for those things, well, it's a beautiful place -- mountains, ocean, plains (well ... whatever you'd call the flat stretches of the Eastern Shore), tidal areas. Like one of the state slogans says, "America in Miniature."

I have a lot of friends there, and visit frequently, but I see no good reason to live in Maryland as a taxpaying citizen ... even Pennsylvania's better, and PA taxes aren't as low as you might think; they just spread them out in different ways.

I'm very interested. But I think I'll wait the year or so for the reviews to come in. If I get one, it would be in hard chrome. And Those won't be out for at least a year anyway.

What ever you do, don't call Kel-Tec and ask when it will be released. The guys at KTOG swear that every time that happens KT pushes the date back.

I'm on the list to get an initial press sample so I can write it up for SWAT. I'm waiting patiently. :)

Ordered it in May but don't expect to get it until late August or even as late as October! I've owned 2 P11s, a P40, 2 P32s and a SUB2000 9mm carbine. Every single one has been flawless but if for some reason the PF-9 has bugs I'm willing to work with it and/or send it back for tweaks. The dimensions of the PF-9 make it worth waiting for.

I'm hoping the PF-9 is also flawless and would not trust my life to a CCW weapon that isn't but Kel-Tec is an American company that listens to its customers and makes very cool products. I'm willing to support their efforts and work with them if the PF-9 has bugs. If nothing else, I'd keep the first PF-9 for practice and buy a later model for CCW.

i presently own a p3at and recently sold my p11 in anticipation of buying a pf9 when they hit the market. i have never had the first problem with either of my kel-tecs.

I really like my P11, not really counting on getting a PF9 anytime soon. Heck, I've fired 150 rounds at IDPA matches before. I ain't a wimp, can handle it. :p I like the P11's capacity and the trigger is actually smoother and lighter than most revolver DAs, if longer. And it's a very accurate gun. It's only 2 oz heavier and a tenth inch thicker than the PF9, capacity is worth it for me.

My P11 was an early production, 9 years old and thousands of trouble free rounds.
