Just about everything I've bought at a gun show has been an impulse buy. My buddy and I drive to the shows, and we both say we are not looking for anything in particular. Then I usually come home with something.....maybe a case of ammo that is below retail, a .22 plinker, or sometimes a S&W revolver. Even brought home a 30-40 Krag once.

Unfortunately I can't really afford to buy on a whim. I have done so, but because the 'whim' guns are usually really cool or really historic, but not terribly practical for the purposes for which I need guns, they usually end up getting sold off.
My P7 was the biggest one of these, I picked up one of the Saxony imports but then had to sell it later. Unfortunate because I could have nearly doubled my money if I'd been able to wait another year or two.
Right now the whim gun being saved for is a Garand, on the grounds that I probably won't have the chance to get one from the CMP in another year or two.

I only make impulse buys if the price is good enough to double my money if I decide its not for me.

That would be last Thursday. I'm usually pretty careful about researching guns before I buy them, but I had time between meetings Thursday and stopped in a LGS to look at a Ruger SR1911 I was thinking about buying, as I've been thinking about getting a Commander size 1911. They had a new Springfield EMP 9mm that was $200 less than the lowest price I'd seen on them. I bought it on the spot, and am picking it up Monday.

When I was younger and not on a limited income, I would buy guns at every show I went to. As you age and retire, you realize that you can't spend money like that anymore. So now I don't do it more than once or twice a year, and usually it's to upgrade or change calibers. For instance for the past 5 years I switched to only 9mm and 45 caliber. So everything that I wasn't shooting was exchanged for guns and ammo that I was now using. I still keep a couple long guns just in case.
Even in the UK if you have a Shotgun License you can buy as many as you like.

Don't let anyone tell you they are rubbish, believe me, they are well made from good materials.

Often. I'm young without a family. If it's something along the lines of what I've been wanting and I see a good deal, I'll impulse buy in a heartbeat.

Oh, that is bull, PDR. Baikal shotties are like 2 to 3 times that price here in the US, so they aren't nearly such a good deal compared to Turkish guns. Stupid import rules...

For a long time I was in the gun of the month club. Anything that was below average price but worth the price was what I purchased. I have a bit of Mad Money set aside for this and these days when a friend or acquaintance needs fast cash they will sell me a firearm at a bargain price. Rent due or fuel tank out and out of work for a few months (mostly seasonal workers) I will buy their gun for a fair price and hold it for at least 6 months. I will give them a chance to recover and purchase it back for the same amount if they want. If they ask about it and want it I will keep it for longer but will use some for upgrading my collection otherwise if it is not something I really feel the need to keep.

Something different and/or expensive is a much harder sell and I'll be very deliberate and measured in such a purchase.

Never....my head is filled with if-I-ever-find-one thoughts. When I go to the Wanenmacher Gun Show in Tulsa and cruise the 1,000s of tables, I always have a long wish list in my head. I've bought numerous guns and other gun related treasure over the years. The key ring with a Warthog tooth attached to it, may qualify as an impulse buy. Well, now that I think about it, if we define impulse as buying before doing adequate research, I brought a "Winchester" spotting scope (made in China) on impulse. It is a piece of crap.

I'm the opposite of George Burns. When I was young I didn't have any spare money because it all went to supporting my family and starting several businesses. Now I have plenty of money and have certain guns I am on the hunt for, but mostly what I end up buying on a regular basis are historical guns or historical replica's that caught my eye at the right moment. You would not believe how many 1903's and Garand's appear when you are not actively seeking them.

An AIA imitation "Jungle Carbine" -somehow- was in Gander Mt. by the Fashion Square Mall in Saginaw MI back in '09.
Very unique gun which was hard to forget. We often stayed in the Four Points Sheraton across the street.
The combination of handling that with watching soon afterwards a short bit of Croc. Dundee #2, where he uses a sporterized Enfield to hit the hired thugs' trucks, lit the Enfield "fuse" at that moment. The fuse could not be extinguished! Had to acquire an actual "Jungle Carbine" (#5). Can't explain how the movie scene lit the fairly subconcious fuse.

I’ve only bought two on impulse. A vintage (1920) nickel S&W hand ejector in 32 S&W Long = Love it…. And a Beretta Stampede with birds head grip. Been trying to get my money out of it ever since.

I would have to say just about every pistol and long gun I own was an impulse buy(save a few) except guns I pieced together for long range shooting. And that's quote a few. I've been blessed with a fair amount of disposable income(and a great woman) in the last 10 years versus the prior 4 when money was tight after the wedding. She's a great gal, but, don't try and lie to a coonass!

I've had a few impulse buys lately, mostly two SKS rifles and a Zastava M70A.
One of the SKS's is good, the other I've had problems with. The Zasti works well but I just dig it so much. They all were for the right price and they got me good!

That is one of the many guns I would like to have for a week. Just to play with. Like those .22lr pistols that take 10/22 mags.
I had a cousin who wanted one. He figured he could add a butt pad extender and be good. I asked if he wanted his 3 yr old to see him in prison for next decade? He grew up hunting his entire life and had no idea trouble putting stock extension on a "pistol" would get him.

I picked up a RRA 1911 for $299 in a certain big box store's used display. At the time, I didn't know the difference in 1911's, just thought it was a pretty good deal on a 1911. I'd never heard of Rock River or Rock Island. They had it tagged as Rock Island in the case.
Like I said, I didn't know much about guns when I bought it, just thought it was pretty cheap. I bought it on impulse, glad I did.
Recently, I was at a pawn shop and found a 1942 Colt Commando .38scpl in their display case for $250, and they let me walk out of there with it for $200 because someone tried to clean up the finish with a wire brush.
Like I said, I didn't know much about guns when I bought it, just thought it was pretty cheap. I bought it on impulse, glad I did.

My last impulse buy was a Browning BDA in 03 and was a rare success for me, the half dozen acquisitions since have all been planned and plotted out and all but one have become a permanent part of my arsenal.
