Well, I've been looking to add a revolver to my collection recently. I've always liked revolvers for some reason (call me old fashioned), but I traded the only handgun I owned (6in. Rossi SS) for a SA XD-9. Don't get me wrong, I really like the XD, but I was missing my old revolver.

Researching on the Internet, I narrowed my choices to the Ruger GP100 or the S&W 686, with 4" barrels, chambered in .357. I figured these are the "do-everything" handguns. You just gotta have one.

Imagine my surprise as I left a gun store today with my brand new Ruger SP101, 2 1/4" in. .357:eek: I held the GP100 and the Smith, but I just could not put this little thing down! I've never been one for short barrels... don't know why, but now I got a snubby... and I love the way it feels :D . Can't wait to shoot it.

Anyone else like the SP101??

P.S. I'm new to the forum... You guys have a great place here. I think I'll stick around a while!

The only thing a S&W has over your SP is the trigger. In a SD gun I prefer a stiffer trigger anyway.

Yes, I like SP101's, Bill

Got one and love it. GOOD shooters and good for carry although a bit heavy for pocket carry. Use a belt holster (IWB or OWB) and it's great. Tough as nails too. Have fun!

Best Wheelgun Around !

I had a 3" about 15 years ago and it was my most favorite magnum. Accurate, tough, and a real joy to shoot. Had a brain fade one day and sold it. I got a 2" just before Christmas (I'll be dead before I even think of selling this one) Had a little action work done on it, had the chambers chamfered and a set of Pachmyrs Compact grips installed. Shoots like a dream and carries covertly and comfortably in a Galco belly band. Life is good ! Congratulations on a very smart choice and shoot it lots.

Welcome, and congrats' on your new SP101!

I just got a 3" model a few days ago, myself. See, look, see, see...

:D

Awesome little gun, huh? I'm thoroughly pleased with mine so far. I was in much the same position as you. Couldn't decide what I wanted, and the SP101 just came to me. Guess it has that effect on folks. :p

Have fun with it!

Just saw your thread spin... great photos! Can't wait to take mine for a spin.

Picked up one last November. Great little gun and has become my primary carry piece. A Bianchi IWB or Don Hume JIT holster works well with it.

BTW welcome kerank

I purchased a hammerless model a year ago. I put buffalo horn inserts in the grip. One of my favorite concealed carry guns. :)

Me too....

Just picked up a high gloss stainless, bobbed DAO sweetie that has had very few rounds down the tube. Shined her up and put a set of Hogues on. Hope to take her to the range this weekend and see how she shoots.

Man, I am talking like a guy in love huh?

I like it though I find the kick somewhat severe though I guess I'm a baby as 12 oz 357 mags exist. I'd really like one in 9x19.

Man you guys are killing me... I got a GP en route to FFL as we speak, and you're making me want an SP! I'd have to buy 2. I'm sure if I got one in .32 H&R my wife would immediately steal it and claim it hers...

Speaking of the .22 LR SP-101 shown in that great picture in Ultraman's post, how rare is the two-inch SP-101 in .22 LR? When I bought my four-inch SP-101 a few years ago, it was the only length offered, and it now appears to be out of production. I really like the idea of a two-inch stainless steel Kit Gun, something S&W has not made since they stopped making the M63.

.22 Kit Guns seem like they should be timeless, but none seem to stay in production for very long. Are they that much of a niche product?

Pretty rare, just sold mine this week in fact, manufactured in '98.

It's a good little snubbie. I own a 357 magnum with the 2.25" barrel. Depending on what is going on I'll carry it either as a belt gun or sometimes in an ankle holster. Some people think it's to heavy for the ankle carry, but I'm here to tell you that it's very portable. It's no bigger or heavier then a 3rd generation Colt Detective Special, but the cylinder is a little smaller because of the five shot capacity versus the six shot cylinder of the Colt DS. Good gun.

You've got good instincts , the SP is a truly awesome weapon. I've got two (9mm & .357) and am looking hard at a third (.32mag) You'll enjoy it and if you treat it properly it will last a lifetime or better.
