I never thought I'd buy a S&W revolver with MIM parts. I owned so many pre-MIMs that I was content with that era of guns.
Then my wife bought be a surprise gift, a 686 with (oh, the horror) MIM parts and the lock.
I am not so pure that I would refuse such a generous gift because of those attributes. Some gun owners, I fear, are too pure to even touch one. So I began shooting it with an open mind. It has been as reliable as any S&W I've ever owned. And more accurate than most. Timing and lockup is better than most guns I own that were made pre-MIM.
I've since added a Springfield Armory 1911 and a S&W New Model 22 .45 ACP revolver, both of which have MIM parts. These were not gifts (although I wish they were!). I bought them becasue I wanted to.
I enjoy shooting them as much as any sidearm I have ever owned, and every day I carry at least one or these three as my personal defense sidearm.
