I'm torn between two handgun scopes, for my new 1911.

This burris

https://www.swfa.com/leupold-2-5-8x32-vx-3-handgun-scope-3.html?___SID=U

And this Leopold

Burris pros on paper
More zoom for long shots (the entire 1911 was built around distance shooting)
Drop hashes (great for 45)
More affordable
I've had great luck with my 2-7x32

Cons
Glass probably isnt as crisp
Heavier than the leo
Not a fan of capped turrets

Leopuld pros
Lighter
Probably better glass (all the Leo's I've looked through have been amazing)
Basically the "go to" for high end handgun scopes

Cons
Pricey (but in budget)
No drop hashes
Capped turrets

Do you guys have experience with either? I'm also trying to find out if one has metal gears vs plastic, because I'm a knob twirler.

To add to BBT's post above, I have found no use for the Burris 2-7x, due more to parallax issues under 100yds. At least the 3-12x is parallax adjustable.

None of the above. The big handgun variables are for single shots and flat shooting cartridges. There is no way either will have enough adjustment for long range shooting with any cartridge chambered in a 1911. Ever hear the saying, "you can't get there from here"? There are no handgun scopes with mil dots or other long range reference points. If you want to shoot long range with a 1911, you're better off learning to do it with irons.
