In order to fit in, do I need a Mosin-Nagant?

I bought an M44 at a show for $110 and a case of ammo for $48. The most recent fun shooting I have had in a long time. I take it to the range every single time I go to mainly shoot pistols. I find myself spending more time with the Mosin. I say buy it along with some stripper clips and surplus ammo, you cant go wrong. Look up other threads to learn how to keep it clean from corrosive ammo.

And oh yeah, to see the mosin on the big screen check out "Enemy at the Gates" great movie!

Lots of folks like them. I am not one of those. To me, the Mosin is an outdated relic, and without merit.

with out merit? do explain. you said it, now prove it

yup. what cacique said.

i went nuts over MNs for a while because I kept thinking, wow, i got a whole gun for 79$!

then i had sticky bolt, the accuracy was pretty lousy, and since i don't get to shoot at night much i never got to see the fireball much.

disgruntled, i sold nearly allof them.

then i got a beat up m39

now i have 4

Yeah, but the 8mm Mauser is the "hot" mil-surp gun to love. There are a zillion of them out there, cheap, wonderful Mauser action, and 8mm is serious ordnance.

I had a Mosin M-44, all matching, nice. Traded it at a gun show. Hard to find ammo . . . not "hard" but it's not generally available like 8mm Mauser stuff.

Got a couple Mausers -- Turk, then a 98/22 and a M-48. I like the older, long barrel stuff. Then I got a Mosin, 91/30, and finally some ammo. Ian Hogg, the Brit. stuff shirt on History Channel thinks the Mosin bolt is "uneccessarily complicated." I tend to agree. Mauser actions are even today being made into custom bolt rifles. Modern bolt action rifles copy the Mauser design.

Mosin is OK, and the M-39 Finn is something of a legend/myth.

But if you want a fun mil. surp, find an 8mm Mauser.

I'll do some searching. I liked the MN's and stuff I was seeing at classicarms.us, so I may start there, and then if I like it, expand the search.

Think of the Mosin like a woman and you'll appreciate it more.
- It's not pretty and doesn't even try, so its about as low maintenance as it gets.
- It likes it rough, when you get done playing with your Mosin you'll be sore - but you won't be able to wipe the smile off your face.
- It likes it dirty; mud, rain, snow, sand - you name it the Mosin has done it there.
- Like a girl who would rather drink cheap beer and whiskey, a Mosin is perfectly happy with dirty surplus ammo.

-The louder ones are more fun...

The other nice thing about the Mosins are the 7.62x54R round. IIRC, the round is still in production...and if we're getting 50+ year old surplus think how many more rounds are stored 'over there' in warehouses...billions I would imagine.

Another nice thing about the ammo is the cost...you can still get 54R for about $0.10 a pop...that's a lot of shooting at the range for a little bit of money.

Yeah, I'm pretty convinced I'm gonna get one. Either the 44, or the 91/30, although I suspect both.
