Someone was complaining of too many CZ and XD threads recently, so....

Let me sing the praises of the Ruger P-series pistols. I just took my KP89D (stainless, decocker-only model) to the range after an absence of almost a year. Although it was the second handgun I bought, it hasn't seen much action since I went on my "buying spree" and filled my safe. So I decided to give it an outing today when I went to try out my new (to me) Beretta M9.

I fired the Beretta first and it was exactly what I've come to expect from a Beretta (I love my 92G Vertec). Then I loaded up the Ruger and put it to work. All I can say is....Wow! I had forgotten how manageable the recoil is with the P89. And the gun is much more accurate than I am. Even my 16-yr old commented on how easy the Ruger was to shoot compared to his all-time favorite the M9.

I should have known better...I remember how impressed I was with my KP89 when I picked it up last year. Now, some 10+ pistols and 12000+ rounds later, I'm even more impressed. It's a dream to shoot and it drives a tack. What else can you ask for in a 17-rd pistol for under $350??

I had a similar experience a few weeks back with my wife and her KP93. It's the smaller cousin of the big P89. She had chosen that has "her" pistol, particularly for home defense. I took her to the range a while back to convince her to switch to the Walther P99 Compact I picked up. Her shots were all over the place and she had a hard time manipulating the slide. Then she picked up her KP93 and proceeded to shoot the center out of the target. That was enough to convince me! Besides, the big controls on the Ruger are much easier for her to manipulate. She has no problem loading or clearing malfunctions with her Ruger. Here they are side-by-side

All in all, the Ruger P-series has to be one of the best values on the market today. I know there have been some been some problems with the new P345's, but I'd say that the P89/P9X series have to be some of the most underrated pistols on the scene. If you get a chance to try one, don't pass it up!

P Series guns are indeed tough. I personally really like the P90...but it's too big to carry.

Love my P95.......always goes bang! It's too big for me to CCW with but it's a perfect house and car gun.....my favorite!

Jerry :)

Heres my favorite Ruger. No issues, 100% bang! I may ccw with it, its light enough, well see after I get my license.

It has always served me well..... even if I did not do the same. I had the
chance to buy a Ruger .45 P# from a THR member a ways back but ended up
having to replace 2 tires instead. Still kicking myself for that (lousy
luck) :banghead: .

Although I carry a P97 most days, this old P85 still rides on my belt sometimes too Picture029.gif

I'm curious and so is my Dad on the issues of the 345 as he just picked up a brand new one today. Sadly enough he couldn't hit anything with my XD45, but I sure as hell could.;)

I love the look and feel of rugers. I really want a .40 polymer DAO but unfortunately they do not make one. (unless there is something I don't know about)

I've got a P89DC that started out as a pretty rough gun...

But it gets better every time I shoot it. When I bought it, it had the worst trigger in the safe. So bad that I used it for dryfire practice. Figured if I could shoot it well, I could handle anything. Now the trigger is actually pretty nice. I shot about 500 rounds of cheap remanufactured ammo the last time I had it at the range and I figured to see some wear when I cleaned it. It looked better and the slide worked smoother than before. I keep wondering how long it can keep improving with use.

P345

New on here but noticed the 345 referred to so thought it might be a good place to start getting some info. My son has one that he now has a permit to carry and probably will given the area he works in. I tried shooting the thing one day and was completely disgusted with the thing trigger-wise. I have shot revolvers DA but this was a first with a DA auto. My suggestion to him was if you ever have to shoot them jam it in their navel because it's unlikely you'll hit them any other way with the first shot. The trigger was acceptable in SA mode.

Are all DA auto triggers that ghastly?

Is there someone, somewhere that can do something with the P345 trigger?
I don't mean a light pull, just a pull that is useable.

What are the known bad issues with the P345, just the trigger?

Thanks for any light on the subject!

I installed a Wolff 19# hammer spring, lightened up the DA pull. I've had 0 misfires with my reloads, using Winchester primers. The spring listed for all the P-series works, although the P345 is not on the list yet.

My KP 345 has been one hundred percent reliable with all manner of factory and handloaded ammo. Easy to field strip, fun to shoot, easy to carry. It's probably my favorite carry gun.

I have a blued P-90 that I've found to be extremely reliable, accurate, and comfortable to shoot. The Ruger autos are the best value on the market, IMO.

My P89 was ugly, clunky, and had some small rust spots on top of the stainless slide from the previous owner's neglect.

But damn, that thing could shoot. Years ago, a buddy and I split a case of mystery-manufacturer lead reloads one afternoon plinking in the Idaho desert, and I don't think either of us had any malfunctions of any sort (P89 and a blue Taurus PT92). What fun.

Kept it in the truck until it was eventually traded away for some other pistol I can't even remember now.

Good guns.

Just took my P97DC out to the range this weekend. Put a mag +3 of hornady XTP 185-grain (so I still have a magazine's worth for HD) and they fed and discharged just as well as the 150 rounds of 230-grain ball. Soft recoil, still shoots better than me and still a lot lighter than my friends all-stainless Sig.

Still the best $280 I ever spent... :D
