after spraining my wrist a found it shall we say "troblesome" to get anything out of any of my right side pockets. So I went to the gun stuff closet and found my old fanny pack rig and problem solved ! I can keep wallet, keys, light, knife,a pistol and a reload for same all in one spot and get to it with either hand. Also when I go to bed it's all nicely packed up in case I have to grab my gear in a hurry and I'll never have to dig thru the dirty clothing for my wallet again.

In our CCW class the instructor told us of a former student who carried in a fanny pack. This guy practiced all the time and he could get his gun out of the pack pretty fast - but of course the problem is that it took both hands to do it. One day a guy came at him with a knife and started stabbing him, and he was trying to ward off the knife and open the fanny pack and he couldn't do it. Finaly he kicked the guy away, opened the pack with both hands and shot the guy. He took alot of damage from the knife that he shouldn't have, and this is why any way of carrying that takes two hands to get to the gun is not recommended.

It sounds like a good short term solution for you, but I'd go back to holster carry when you can.

At times I find the fanny pack very useful. I use it when travelling and find it is easy to get my gun when in a seat belt, or to lay it on the floor.

There will always be some situations where it will not be the best, but I think we can say that about any method of carry.

I picked up a well made and useful fanny pack several months ago from Anderson Enterprises and I find I am using it more and more. I chose maroon with black trim for color scheme so as not to appear too tactical. I carry my J frame or Colt Det. Special, a speed strip, a diminutive flashlight, folder, keys, cell phone, and wallet all in a small, neat, compact package.....everything is easy to access with a seperate holstered compartment for my revolver and several well thought out accessory pockets.
Valkman......often two hands are necessary when clearing a holster.....many times a shirt or cover garment needs to be pulled up before a gun can be drawn......with practice a fanny pack can be nearly as quick as many forms of holster carry ! However if someone doesn't like the fanny pack ....fair enough...it's not perfect...... there I can agree !

I'm just saying that as a normal mode of carry I'd never use a system that requires two hands. Fanny packs and carrying a gun with the chamber empty are examples of that. I can take my cover garment back and draw with one hand and fire. A fanny pack will never be as quick if you need both hands to open it and are using one hand to fend off the attacker - not to mention the fact that some people are very good at cutting the strap and stealing them. It's definitely not for me, but if it's what you like go for it! :)
