Brake Cleaner!!!
Like i mentioned earlier, i got my SKS just before Christmas. I was a little concerned about slamfires, after hearing about them many times on TFL as well as a few of the SKS forums.
I got the best looking SKS that i could, but i didn't inspect the bolt and firing pin until i got it home.
It looked like someone had packed it full of cosmoline, like they were planning on storing it in a cave or something. So i took it and cleaned it the best i could with Hoppes #9, even letting it soak for an hour or so, and even though that seemed to loosen it up considerably, it still felt like there was some drag on the pin inside there somewhere.
So out comes the $1.99 brake cleaner. Went outside, gave it a few blasts into each of the nooks and crannies, and all that yellow gunk is finally gone. Now the pin moves back and forth effortlessly.
Got to love something so cheap that works so well.
