I finally got a Yugo SKS at the HGCA gun show in Houston today. The best price was $125 after tax for what seems to be a decent rifle. There were 8 or 10 tables selling SKS rifles. At least half had them under $150. Lots of WASR's and some SAR's. I don't think I have ever seen that many SKS's and AK's at that gun show (though I probably wouldn't have noticed a few years ago). I just thought it was the best SKS prices I have seen in this area recently. There was a pretty good crowd too. Sold a Ruger Mk II to pay for the SKS so I thought I got out with a good exchange.
I just got though wiping cosmoline off all the parts. My next step is the spray cleaner on everything and then try to punch out that pin to disassemble the bolt. I have heard that is a chore and a half.
To put in a plug for my cousin, Lonestar Gun Safes is set up there and has a Champion safe that survived a fire. He said he had not yet shipped it back to the manufacturer for credit after supplying the replacement safe. The inside was in pretty good condition. I was impressed. Good for me too since I already have one.
Question: Has anyone tried to install a peep sight on their SKS? I saw this link on another site. It looked like a good idea. I don't care for that leaf site.
