In quest of .45 Auto Rim brass

My new .45 revolver is somewhere on its way to me in the big brown truck, and I'm pumped, jacked up, and stoked! I've reloaded several thousand rounds of .45 ACP in the past few years, but have never even (to my knowledge) seen any .45 Auto Rim brass. As a "just for kicks" exercise, I think I would enjoy reloading a few of them to see the difference between those and when using moon clips.

Both the Starline and the RP are perfectly good.
You will like the .45 AR. Load it exactly the same way as ACP. Exactly. If you are looking for hot loads, however, it can be roll crimped.

Thanks, moxie, and thanks calaverasslim. I have been to that gun shop a number of times and have enjoyed each and every trip. I have found the proprietor to be extremely knowledgeable, very outgoing, willing to help beginners, and all around, he is one heckuva nice guy. Just a reminder.....For reloading,you do need different shell holders than for ACP.

I found the RP brass to thin to get more than 1 or 2 reloads out of.First load would be jacketed second load would be cast after that not enough case mouth tension to hold any bullet.Reach for the stars, starline that is.

I've given this some more thought... Actually, I may be better off to just keep loading .45 ACP like I've been doing, and learn how to become good friends with the moon clips.

For one pistol that uses moon clips, I'd stick with the ACP. I load both ACP and AR, just for a change now and again, and on the off-chance an Enfield MkVI crosses my path.
Search on the web for Rim-Z moon clips, they really make your range time much more enjoyable.

I recently bought a SW Nightguard in 45 ACP. I love the moon clips, you will be happy with them BUT BUY A LOADING AND UNLOADING TOOL. I bought the "moonclip tool" for about 30 dlls. I have bought way to many gadgets in my life and I can tell you that those are the best spent 30 dlls.

Midway is showing both Starline and Remington as being in stock now. Starline is a bit cheaper.

"...Enfield MkVI..." Both the .45 ACP and Auto-Rim use a different bullet diameter. Too small. .455 Webley uses a .454" bullet. Same as the .45 Colt.

True, but many MkVIs that have cylinders shaved for .45 ACP and AR shoot very well with the slightly smaller diameter bullets.

I know, but I figured I'd probably get a cheap "shaved" shooter before I was able to find an expensive original. To date I haven't gotten either!

I see 45AR every great now and then at gunbroker.

I have a handful of .45ACP revolvers, and have to say (having loaded AR also) it's a hoot to have the full moon clips. Dang handy to have one in your pocket when you're in the field. Have it your way, though. Half of the fun of reloading is being able to make stuff the way you like it.

Oh - and to JOHHNYC - Yeah, those .455s..... I have a 1917 Colt with the Brit "Broad Arrow" proof marked .455 Eley, and it must have been fixed by Bubba - it now shoots .45 Colt - and does it well when I load it with .454" bullets.
