In spite of the palpable anger the very existence of this rifle will cause

but I don't see why this rifle would elicit anger.

It's an inevitability any time a gun or ammo maker puts out a new gun or new round. For some reason, a large number of people respond as though the new product is an affront to all that is good and holy about hunting and shooting.

It honestly looks like the perfect platform for the .375 Ruger cartridge to me... a .338 WM chambered Guide gun would probably also be a good combo.

i would absolutely buy one if i had the money, satisfies my two "peeves" i dislike synthetic stocks, and like a rifle with sights. The brake i could take or leave. The rest of it i'm one stage short of love

Yep!

I like it, don't love it but like. I prefer walnut but brown laminates are fine on some rifles. Camo laminates are okay too. Just don't like black laminates. I like the new blasted finish, the barrel band, the sights and the adjustable LOP. All it needs is an NECG receiver sight. I'd just prefer it didn't have a muzzle brake but Ruger has a very good rifle in their 77 Hawkeye.

I guess Ruger thinks they can succeed where Remington failed with the (nicer looking, lighter weight and less expensive) 673 Guide gun.

Somehow I doubt it.................

The .375 Ruger is an interesting round. My concern would be that it won't take off and obtain ammo and components would become near impossible.

As a hand loader, it seems like the .338 Win. Mag would be pretty versatile.

One thing it has going for it big time is sights. I fondly remember a time when ALL rifles came facory with iron sights. Some required a gunsmith to drill and tap for scope mounts.

I'm ambivalent about the stock, dislike the brake, but think it's overall a decent looking rifle. Ruger has made a fwe rifles over the years that I have liked. This might wind up being another.

What kind of ejector does it have? It has a claw extractor but is the ejector a blade or plunger type?

The page doesn't specify the type of ejector.

It looks like the muzzle nrake can be replaced with either a counterweight or thread protector. Presumably, one could also affix a suppressor, but I don't know what the point of suppressing a magnum rifle round would be.

I think this is great. I was considering a GSR, but I'm not a huge fan of the .308. Not so much because I disagree with the ballistics of the cartridge, but because it's so darn hard to get some nowadays! I actually looked into shorter barreled 30-06 lately. The 30-06 is still in good supply and can be obtained at really good prices. Even the Russians are making that caliber now, cheap too! And I think an 18.5 inch barrel on a .308/30-06 is just too short. I like how this new Guide gun has a 20 inch barrel. Iron sights too! No bulky magazine either. This just might be a really good hunting/self-defense rifle!

Yup, I agree that that rifle is plumb downright UG-LEE. I don't like it... don't want one!

But ain't that why they make chocolate and vanilla?

The bottom line is that if it fills a need, it'll either catch on or mutate to more... ah, 'conservative' tastes.

The plain fact is that I can clearly recall when EVERY rifle left the factory with quality iron sights. Then after the "gotta hav'a scope" days took hold iron sights became more of a rarity... like cigarette lighters and ashtrays in today's new cars.

Gimme a good iron sighted rifle ANY day over one with a scope that cost more'n the rifle.

Yup, I'm one of those gray haired ancient old parts.

;)
