Not sure what to make of this, but was driving up to Des Moines today, and on a lark, decided to detour to Grinell to visit Brownell's retail store. Warehouse is HUGE, but retail store only slightly larger than Graf's retail store, as far as retail space is concerned, but a lot of empty space, so actual merchandise on the floor about the same. Only place I've ever been that had close to as many AR rifles in the racks as the Amory at Whiteman AFB.

But what caught my eye was the counter than had primers. Large rifle, small rifle, large pistol, small pistol and Cheddite 209. Website says out of stock.....yet they had close to 20 bricks of each on the floor.

Have noticed something similar at Graf's with powders. Website says out of stock. Eyeball observes dozens of powders in the back corner powder cabinet.....powders you pick up in your hand, place on the counter......pay for and walk out the door with.

Wonder why the disconnect?

Bottom line is if you have a local retail store than used to handle reloading components......and you are looking for same, may pay to give them a visit. No telling what you might find.

It's kind of like paying more at the pump vs going inside to prepay. You will probably spend more money.
It also helps keep the locals happy. Locals should be any brick and mortar store's first priority.

Curious...what were the prices? Same as on the website?

As near as I could tell, prices the same. Large rifle primers were $95 / k.......but no haz mat or shipping.

My take is Brownell's is mostly setup for online biz. Minimal parking as compared to a Bass Pro or Cabelas. They had a paper catalog on the counter nearly 1 inch thick and more products on the website than in the catalog. There wasn't a fraction of either on the retail floor. But anything that was in the catalog.....or website........could be pulled from stock and brought to the front retail counter.

So if in the area, by all means stop by. Easy access off I-80 at Grinell exit. But not a destination to plan a vacation around. Graf's isn't either.....and Midway certainly isn't. They have no retail space......only 10 or so parking spots in a massive parking lot for customer pickup of online orders. Sierra Bullet's outlet store is a room about the size of my 2 car garage (only 4 parking spaces) filled with barrels of various bullets you buy by the pound. The retail space inside you have access to at Sierra is about the size of your hallway balthroom.
