In The Market For New 1911

I have an older safari arms and a para usa no frills model, both have been great. I've seen so many reliable and beautiful 1911's in your price range. Enjoy your search.

The only problem with the SIG is that is uses a few proprietary parts so they aren't replaceable with just anyone's part. Also the slide is a bit different so holster fit can be hit or miss. Sig isn't the only one that has proprietary parts in their 1911 but I think Sig strays the furthest out of the big name manufacturers.

Minor correction:

I know you responded to a person regarding a Sig "TTT" model, which is different, but Sig does offer models which have the traditional rounded slide which is no different than any standard 1911. True that the Sig pistols have an external extractor, but so do the S&W E-Series guns. I don't think the Sig "strays" any further than the S&W from the original 1911 design.

Regardless, I have a reverse two-tone like the one in the link below and it is a heck of a pistol for under 1000 bucks:

True about the slide (I was referring to the model shown in the pic) but it's not just the extractor that SIG changes. A couple of other parts are similar but have had minor changes made so that they are not interchangeable. FPS for instance, based on the series 80 but changed (at least in some of their models, not sure about all of them). S&W is similar but didn't change as much as SIG did...although close. The slide not fitting in a lot of holsters was a pretty significant change which is why I said they strayed the most.

Just to make all of you non-CA gun owners feel good, (and not to digress from the thread!) let me tell you the prices you consistently quote are NOT available in this stalag-state. The govt "regulates" guns and ammo until its apparently way overpriced and therefore out of the reach of most people. I only wish I could get the guns you all discuss at those prices.
