Marlin 7000
Bought one 5 years ago, has probably 3000 rounds thru it and has never had one malf of any sort.

Very accurate. Has a simmons 6.5-20x50mm and a bipod.

At 100 yards, wolf target ammo:

Erma/Iver Johnson 22 carbine. I have two and they have an excellent combination of good trigger, accuracy, and ergonomics(for me anyway).

Model 60 '70's vintage, 22 inch bbl.

Been looking for one off and on for a year now. Like to get one before the NJ 14 round tube option. Not many people want to give them up.

Settled for an NRA commemorative model.

I have a Rem 597 as well but I think that the 60's a little better. It might just be that I'm not too fond of the 597's stock sights and the Mepro's(I think) I installed aren't much better.

And yes, my vote is Model 60.

My father in law has an older Remington Speedmaster that's hard to beat. I can usually outshoot his 10-22's with my Rem 597, but that Speedmaster just whips me.

I would like to know more about the CZ 511. A local gun shop has one for $350. Is that a good price? Anyone actually know how they shoot?
I don't want to buy one and be disappointed.

d2wing,

Go over to Rimfirecentral.com, in the CZ section, and do a search.

If you post where you live, you won't be disappointed, because I'll buy it. :D

I was going to say Weatherby Mk22 but I checked first and the thing's been replaced by a bolt action. Probably during the Carter administration.

Now I feel old.

d2wing. If you don't want that rifle please please let me know where it is. I would love to pick up a 511 for that price. If I were you I would jump on it. If you do get it and don't like it for whatever reason let me know.

The CZ 511 is at Scheels in Mankato MN, It's used but looks pretty new.
I won't feel bad if one of you gets there first. I'm kinda over budget in guns but I might pick it up anyway.

Maybe I just got a good one but my 10/22 shoots great out of the box. granted i did try about 4 kinds of ammo before i found the one it liked the most (winchester xpert hollow point). But i can consistintly shoot dime size or smaller groups at 30yds and it will shoot mos (minute of squrriel)way beyond that.

You got lucky............go buy a lottery ticket. :D

Alright gentlemen, your responses have been extremely helpful. Thank you.

While looking for a Marlin 60 or a Stevens/Savage, I came across a Glenfield Marlin 70 (microgroove, steel in excellent shape with almost 99% blueing) and a Springfield (Stevens/Savage)87A in great mechanical condition but pitted in a couple of inconsequential (to me) places, for a total of $210.00, FTF. Both stocks have been refinished.

Can't wait to shoot them on Friday.

Gentlemen, just an update on my search for an accurate, out of the box, 22 semi-auto. Many thanks for all your suggestions.

I found a good, used Marlin 60, 21 inch barrel with 14 round (l.r.) mag tube, LSHO feature. Well maintained, previous owner probably shot 5 or 6 bricks through it.

It came with a cheapo Nikko Sterling Compact 4 x 32 scope and solid, not laminated, wood stock.

It shot 1.5 inch, 5-shot groups, at 100 meters (we use meters not yds up here in Vancouver, BC, Canada) with Winchester Dynapoint white box bulk, no wind.

This duplicates the groups from my CZ452 Style, although groups were shot on different days. Needless to day, I am very pleased:D:D:D Thanks again.

I would have to agree with the 10/22, but if your looking for "fun" check out the Sig 522 we got some in stock so I took one to the range, I enjoyed it so much I actually bought it....

Most accurate that I've ever shot out of the box (with a scope on it) is a Ruger 10/22 Target Tactical.

I reviewed it here if you're interested ( http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=518584 ), but my answers to your questions are as follows:

Please give details of your groups: From 50 yds., I got the gun to group into 3/8" 5 shot groups, and from 75 yds., it grouped at about 3/4".

Rifle make and model, if possible year of manufacture: Ruger 10/22 Target Tactical and I believe it was manufactured this year or late last year.

Scope make and specs, or stock iron: Leupold VX-I 2-7x33

Method (i.e. bench rested, on sand bags etc): Just shooting with the supplied bipod.

Ammo: Winchester Super-X High Velocity 40grn. FMJ

Distance (range): 50 and 75 yards

Group size: See above.

Edit: Also, I meant to mention, when you say "out of the box", I really mean out of the box on this one. I literally took it out of the box, affixed the bipod, mounted the scope, and it sat in my gun closet for a month or so until I could get to the range. No cleaning, no break in; nothing other than the few rounds to zero it and then shooting for groups.

... Now then, if you can find a marlin 7000 , with cutouts for the front and rear sites, but nothing is in them, then that was a bbl made for their target 2000ls', and should be a one hole punch. also a regular non cutout 7000 is good. next up would be any of the marlins; 60, 99.99c, 989, 99m1, 75, 75c, 70, papoose, etc.

OP already made the smart money move
Marlin model 60

rimfires are about reasonable expectations, plus luck of the draw, especially in semi-autos
hands down best bet, Marlin model 60
next best bet Browning SA22

10/22s are all about rebuilding, unless you beat the odds on luck of the draw
