I'm wanting to double the amount of powder my RCBS Uniflow powder measure can handle. To do that, I want to replace the slip fit plastic reservoir. The inner diameter of the measure is 2" and the wall thickness of the plastic is 1/8". Does anyone know where I can either get plastic tubing or a powder reservoir I can use to increase the size of the reservoir?

Thanks,

Dave

Those polycarbonate tubes might work. Only concern I have is the chemical effects of powder on that tube.

I was looking at the Redding powder reservoir. RCBS has a large reservoir for another measure, but it appears to be wide vs. being tall. This raises a concern of space, because I'm planning on having a bullet feeder and other stuff added to this press. So I'm not sure if the fatter reservoirs will fit space wise.

I have replaced my Uniflow resevoir twice now with tubing I found at a plastics dealer. See if there is one in your area. I had to very slightly reduce the outside dia. on a belt sander to allow it to fit into the measure. If you put a very small taper on the bottom it will fit in and wedge into the measure. I don't thnk I would shoot for doubling the capacity. There could be a difference between powder drops when it was full or almost empty. Making a baffle to fit in the bottom might solve that problem though.

Give them a call, they may send you one. I called Hornady last year when I discovered that mine was loose in the dispenser, the sent me one free. Another option is make a top that you can attache and larger bottle too.

I looked at that RCBS "fat" reservoir, but the concern I have is how much real estate it takes up and if it will interfere with other stuff, such as a bullet feeder or not.

Doing a search on Ebay for acrylic or polycarbonate tubing will get you an easy source, I have had good luck with this for various projects for case feed tubes, etc. You can get 6 foot lengths for this. If all else fails you could go the "Frankenstein way". Just get another uniflow reservoir, stack and glue to the first using clear two part epoxy. Just make sure to have a baffle near the bottom to maintain a constant pressure head on the powder column.

Epoxy?

This is a clear cut case for Duck Tape if I ever seen one.

Make a Red Neck Reservoir out of it!! :D

Be careful about going too tall with your measure it might have a lot more leverage when fully loaded than you think.
Or just go for it if it's too unstable you can always trim it down a bit but keep an eye on it for a session or two.

FYI, just in case anyone wonders: RCBS and Hornady look very similar, but they are not identical... the diameters are different, and one won't fit the other.

By the way - RCBS replacement tube, brand new, unused: for sale $CHEAP. ;)

! roll - black duct tape - slightly used - will fit RCBS replacement tube - make offer :D

I would hesitate to increase the size of the hopper for the simple reason that any accident that could possibly lead to ignition of the powder will be a lot more of a problem with double the powder!
