I have a chance to pick up a thousand rounds of Indian .308 ammo for $80.00. I have heard some negative things about this stuff, but was wondering if it is worth buying at such a low price? Please let me know if you have any experience with this ammo.

Run, don't walk, away. I saw a guy shoot some in a M1A; he had to bang the op rod handle against a post to eject several cases, and that's pretty harmless compared to some other stories I've heard.

I agree with Pip.

I picked up some of this on for some cheap blasting ammo. Took it to the range along with my AI AWP when I was breaking/sighting in my Steyr Scout. I'd shoot the Scout, let the barrel cool, then clean it. When the barrel was cooling I was "plinking" with the AWP. I shot about 3 round of the Indian and each time I had to force the bolt open. My AWP has never had a problem digesting anything. I tried some of my match loads (Fed Match) and hunting loads (Win Supream) with no problem.

When I got done breaking in the Scout I decided to run one round through it... again, like the AWP, extreamly hard bolt unlock.

I through the rest of the crap away!

The Indian ammo is famous for defects around the case neck, turning even the most reliable rifle into a jam-o-matic.

Even if you carefully scrutinize your rounds, and cull out the bad ones, it shoots 4 inch groups @ 25 YARDS.

Suck doesn't even begin to describe it.

It is really strange! Obviously the Indian .308 surplus ammos are bad in quality. How the Indian army used such problematic ammos once in service is really a mystery to me. Their rifles are more tough, not so picky as US rifles?

It's not a question of the rifles used. To my knowledge, the Indian army uses either an FAL or a Cetme variant. The Indian ammo that got over here has been causing problems with shooters of those types of weapons too.

It's not a question of the rifle it's used in, it's the ammo itself. My suspicion is that the lots of ammo purchased and shipped over from India contained a large quantity of ammunition that was culled from the production line as defective. The defective ammo was included to fill out the order, much to the detriment of American shooters.

The componants are worth more than $80 powder by its self would cost you $120 and the bullets would be another $50 + That is if you reload.
throw the cases away if they are not proper.
