For once I had my act together and foresaw that my License to Carry a Handgun (aka, the little pink card) was to expire. I filled out the application on Friday the 17th of October at my city's cop shoppe, paid the $10.00. The city signed off on me (hold over from the pre-"shall issue" days before the court decision in '81) and then off to the state po-po in Indy with $15.00.

Got my new little pink card on the 29th. Three whole weeks before my old one was to expire. Not bad for El Tejon.:p

It appears the new 'puter system that the state po-po agonized over is now clicking along and the days of the 6 to 8 week wait for our LTCH are over. Whew.

Heh..

I just got my form to mail off to the State Police yesterday after applying at the local PD on the 13th.

The local form says that it takes 21 days to process and not to call before that time.

Funny thing is that after the clerk fingerprints me for final processing and hands me the forms to mail off to the ISP, I look at the chief's signature and it was dated the same day (the 13th) I turned my local app in.

It used to be that they'd call you to come in when you were ready for final processing. Now they just say '21 days' regardless of how long it actually takes them.

The local PD also used to fill in the state form for you with a typewriter and all you had to do was sign and initial it in the designated places. Not any more. Now we have to fill it in ourselves.

Now to drop it off in the mail today.

My wife got her 'little pink car' about a month ago. I took the package to the post office, since you they give you an odd sized envelope to mail it in that requires extra postage, on Monday. The next Wednesday - yes, 9 days later - she got the little pink car in the mail!

I couldn't believe it, it took 6 weeks to get mine back last year!

That's good turnaround time. I don't need to renew until '05.

Changing Address?

I've just recently moved (about 7 miles is all), but it puts me into the neighboring postal zone. Granger now, instead of Mishawaka. My LCH expires in 2005. Anyone know what they say about address changes? Update, or wait until I renew?

Does anyone know if there are provisions for Active Duty US Military who are stationed overseas to apply for their LTC without actually going back to Indiana? I've checked packing.org's state CCW section and didn't notice anything.

nick, Indiana has no "non-resident" license. We recognize all other states and foreign countries.

The controlling fact would be your domicile. Do you still vote absentee here, driver's license, pay taxes, own property, etc.???

When I resided out of state, I still maintained my domicile in Indiana. Wrote my Sheriff and they mailed me the application. The State po-po mailed the license to my address of domicile and mom forwarded to me.:D

Thanks, El T. Indiana is my home of record. I'll see if I can have my father pick up an application for me. You better believe I vote :) I still pay taxes and have an Indiana DL as well. I wasn't too concerned with obtaining my LTC or my motorcycle endorsement before I joined the Air Force, that was a big mistake. For anybody who's considering joining the military, get your permit and endorsement before you leave home. It'll make life easier later on.
