.40S&W P99 here.... WOULDN'T trade it for all the high-cap, wonder nines in the world... Nice trigger, sights stand out, grip fits nicely... I love the 1911 but I have yet to find a 1911 that fit me this well... Great for CCW too.

I've heard mostly good things about the P99. I haven't had any serious problems with my P99. The one problem I've had with mine has been with 115 grain loads stovepiping sometimes. I've never had any problems with 124 and 147 grain loads.

I love my P99 .40 !!! (as if you haven't heard that already). I've got well over 2000 trouble-free rounds through it at this point.

Sights: Meprolight tritium sights all the way! They're not too expensive, they're bright, and they were a breeze to install.

I've got a small page put up about my P99 here:

Very good pistol..I consider it to be the best polymer 9mm around..
my Beretta 92 runs circles around it though..:D :D

Whilst we are at it, I understand that a leading Glock accessories shop now stock accessories for the P99, anyone know which shop this is?? Also whatever became of Gulfstream Sports??

I have a P99 in .40, and am delighted with it. It's easily the most ergonomic pistol I've ever held. It's been flawless with 155 grain JHPs, and I find myself carrying it more and more. A thoughtful touch is the 4 different height front sights and 3 grip adapters supplied with it. My only negative is that extracted brass marks the slide right in back of the ejection port, but it's really nothing major, and cleans off easily.

P99

I have a p99 in .40 cal. It fits my hand very well. I like it over all. The one thing I would change about the pistol is the interchangable back strap. I'd like to see some checkering of some sort on it, kind of like the checkering on the backstrap of my glocks. I think it would make the pistol feel more secure in the hand. Mine feels kind of slippery to me. That's about the only thing I'd improve though. The rest of the design seems perfect to me. It shoots flawlessly, and is totally acurate.

I find it very funny how so many people are closed-minded about the P99. Wait 'till you fire about 500 or so rounds through it before passing judgement. I didn't like the trigger at first either. Now, almost 3000 rounds later, my P99 continues to be my favorite pistol. The trigger is ultra-smooth, and peopple often want to know who worked on it.....no-one! The P99 truly is an awesome pistol...give it a chance...you just might fall in love...

OMG! lunde, that was *your* site that inspired me to buy my first P99 last month! I love it! The only problem is, now I want to *use* the one I have and *buy* another blued, an OD green, and the QPQ just to sit and look pretty... and this time I'm thinking of ordering them from that guy Earl so I don't have to deal w/ the ugly S&W importer markings on the right of the slide... :)

San Jose, eh? Going to the Los Altos rod and gun shoot next month? I'd love to see any P99 stuff you've got!

venom, you might want to check something on your site - the QA certainly isn't the approximation of DA only of Walther, the P990 is.

Iowa P99 owners?

Is there anyone on this board (or anybody know anyone) that owns a P99 (preferably 9mm, but either caliber) that lives in or around Linn or Johnson counties? I've found these guns at my local shops, and have held them a few times, but would love to be able to shoot them. Heck, I'll even buy the ammo! :) post here or PM me if you wouldn't mind.

I make it out to DM every once in a while, so if you live over there that's not a problem either...just will have to do it on the weekend.

Well, hope you make it to the shoot, lunde!

As for the +p+ question, I've scoured the literature for anything that might shed some light on it, and the closest thing I could find was the manual's statement that:

'only good quality factory ammunition should be used. If you prepare your handloads be careful, and do not exceed recommended pressures in line with those generated by standard factory loads (not +P) as manufactured by Remington, Winchester, Federal, Hornady, PMC or other reputable companies.'

You could read that to mean factory ammunition, including +p or +p+, is okay, but handloads should be restricted to standard loads; or you could read it to mean that no +p or higher pressure loads should be used, including factory ammunition.

However, keep in mind that it is a modern 'service pistol,' and that it is intentionally overengineered. I imagine that firing a box or so of high pressure self defense ammo, say, for example, 124 gr +p+ Win RA9T, just to make sure your carry load functions properly, wouldn't hurt it... ;)
