Does anyone know a good place to get information about WW2 handguns?

I just received, as part of my inheritance, a pistol my Dad brought back from Germany in 1945. In basic design, it looks like the direct ancestor of my Sig 230, and shoots "Cal. 7.65" according to the stamp on the slide.

It appears to be in pretty good condition, except for the grip panels, which look to be half-melted Bakelite. All you can see of them is that they were checked, and had a circular logo of some kind near the bottom, about the size of a nickel.

It comes complete with 2 magazines and the original leather holster, which says, "Sauer + Sohn", along with the serial number of the gun itself. All parts of the gun have matching numbers, too.

Both the slide and the frame have a tiny icon stamped on them that looks like the eagle and swastika, though I'll need a good light and a better magnifying glass to be sure.

I'd like to know more about what I have and what it's worth (for insurance purposes - there's no way I'm selling it), so if anyone can point me to good information in Houston or on the Internet, I'll be grateful.

Once I get it cleaned up, I'll take and post photos. Promise. :)

Yes, that's it!

I'm guessing from the article's content that mine is from semi-late in WW II. It has the cocking / de-cocking lever, but no manual safety. The finish is black, like the first two photos on that page.

Serial number is in the 500,000's.

Thanks for the information.
