I have a Marlin 39A, that I would like to find out some information about. I purchased this rifle several years ago, and would like to find out what year it was manufactured, and approximately what it is worth. It is a take down with microgroove barrel. The serial number is P66xx. The wood is in nice shape, and the bluing shows very little wear. Can anyone help me out? I found a site on the computer, was was unable to get a date of manufacture. I must have done something wrong.

My info tells me that the "P" prefix indicates a 1957 year of manufacture.
I own a 39-A and it is a fine shooter.

Keke/PA.
Thanks for the reply. I have been trying to find out some information about this gun and wonder if you might know a rough estimate of what the rifle is worth. I can get a picture later is that would help.

Put the words "Marlin Model 39A prices" into Google and you should get thousands of responses. Pay attention to the dates of the prices you find because Google will bring up some mighty old results but you should get a number of gun auction site results that should get you in the ball park.

I bought my 39A two years ago at my local FFL whho had the rifle on consignment.
I was really impressed with the exceptionally good condition of the rifle especially since I discovered a 1968 date of manufacture.
After some haggleing got the rifle for $290.00.

Just kinda of an update:
I find that the accuracy if my rifle is maintained by frequent cleaning.
By this I mean if the accuracy SEEMS to drop off, a Hoppe's #9, Bronze Brush treatment is a great help.
Super Rifle !!
