Hey folks!

I just saw on our local news that there was a local sheriff's deputy injured tonight in a single vehicle accident. This officer was a K9 unit. The reporter mentioned that the officer was transported to The Med in Memphis, TN and in guarded condition. There was no mention of the K9. I believe she was enroute to a burglary in progress call.

I searched the website for the full story to link but it is not posted yet.

Please keep this officer and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks in advance!

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A Craighead County deputy is in the hospital with multiple injuries after she flips her patrol car on Highway 638, just west of Bay.

Police say Deputy Donna Cromwell and her K-9 were responding to a burglary call, when she lost control on the gravel road and flipped several times.

At last word, doctors at the Med in Memphis were trying to get her condition stabilized to take her into surgery.

We are told she is in serious condition.

"She lost control when she hit the ditch embankment. She started rolling about four, five or six times. She got throw'd[sic] from the car." said witness Tim Guthrie.

State police are investigating the accident.

We'll continue to track this story throughout the day.

gravel roads can be hell to drive on at any significant speed.

hope they both turn out ok.

Latest Update

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - An update about the condition of Craighead County Sheriff's Deputy, Donna Cromwell has come in to the Region 8 News room.

Sources say that after a prayer vigil held just outside the police department last night, her vital signs improved to almost normal, allowing doctors to take her into surgery.

Cromwell is still in critical condition at the Med in Memphis this morning, stemming from an accident with her k-9 partner just west of Bay, when she flipped her cruiser several times.

Cromwell was ejected from the car during the crash.

Cromwell is suffering from severe injuries to her back and neck, as well as suffers from at least one broken hip.

I seem to recall in my years of service that more officers are injured / killed on their way to an incident than from the incident itself. Mr. Roads is the number one killer, followed by Miss judgement and her twin sister Lackof Judgement.

One would have thought a properly fastened seat belt would keep that from happening.

A guy here got tossed out of his car in a rollover a few years back. Did not have his seat belt fastened. Barely survived and was in hospital for many weeks. Was given citation for not wearing seat belt.

Seatbelt

Arkansas State Police are conducting the investigation. They have not been able to determine that the seatbelt was in use. I'm not sure that they will publicize the findings if they reflect negative conduct by the officer.

She was apparently responding to a robbery in progress. I'm not sure if this was a 911 call or a security alarm system. I am in the alarm industry and teach classes for our state. We talk about the impact of false alarms extensively. I hope this was not the effect of a false alarm.

Either way, please keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks gentlemen.

Chuck

If she's at "The Med" in Memphis, she's in EXCELLANT hands. The doctors there see an enormous volume of trauma. If she can be "fixed", she will be.
