I have a mix master Inland that fails to eject about every 10 rounds. It extracts but the slide closes on the spent round and prevents the fresh round from chambering.

My handloads were all CCI 450 primers, Accurate #9, cases trimmed to 1.285" and Sierra 110 FMJ. I did notice that all my problems started with hotter ammo. I started with 11.5 grns of #9 which were fine and went up to 12 grn. loads and the FTE's. I don't think this is the problem though. Brass is all range pick ups so I can't isolate that.

I ordered a USGI bolt kit and will rebuild it to eliminate that part of the equation. I have no history on the gun. Maybe a slide spring? Any other ideas?

Failure to eject in a carbine usually means the ejector is not working freely or the ejector spring has lost tension. There could be other problems, but they are all in the bolt. Get a carbine bolt tool if you can find one and disassemble the bolt. (It can be done without the tool, but it is a real PITA.) You should be able to figure out what is wrong.

Can be underfunction; that is, the bolt isn't traveling rearward enough for the ejector to eject and for the bolt to pick up a fresh cartridge. Causes:

Lack of lubrication. Grease/oil it per USGI manual.
Bad ammo. Use USGI Spec ammo.
Bag magazine. Bolt is dragging on the magazine. Swap with a USGI magazine.
Bent operating rod. Op rod is slightly tweaked and is slowing down the unlocking.
Bolt dragging in action. Put bolt in without op rod. Move back and forth. See if there's any binding or any high spots (polished areas). Then do the same with the op rod.
Gas piston sticking. May need cleaning.
Gas port not letting enough gas into gas cylinder.

Could be your loads are too light to get full cycling.

Accurate shows 11.7 grains AA#9 as the starting load.
13.0 Max.

I'd bump it up to 12.5 and see what it does.

get a chronograph if you going to load for this weapon.figure out what the original fps is called for.your hotter loads maybe making bullet exit faster than the psi power curve to activate the slide properly.check piston.

1. Clean the gas port with solvent DO NOT OIL . clean the gas port with a small drill bit by hand .
2. 4227 is a much better powder for reloading this round but try factory ammo first and see what happens .
3. Good luck with this i have had several franken M1 carbines . :)
