Hello all,

Recently picked up a used Springfield 1911 Mil Spec from a friend of mine. Ran a box of his ammo through the gun before purchasing and narry a problem.

Well all excited after buying the gun, I picked up a box of WWB and a box of CCI Independance, took two trips to the range and have had FTE problems with both types of ammo - 8 times with the WWB (7 of which were on shot 6 of 7) and twice with the Independance. I cleaned and oiled the gun between trips to the range and nothing changed from trip to trip. Most of the jams have been easy to clear - usually just stuck on the slide where a quick pull releases the brass - but I did have two that were considerably more difficult to remove. :fire:

One of the guys behind the counter mentioned that the brass is getting caught up when ejecting (he saw some flakes on the ejector) but I didn't get a chance to ask any follow up questions as someone passed out outside of the range and I ran out to help.

Anyway, hoping for some insight, what's my next step? I'd like to someday start competing in USPSA events but want to fix this problem before heading in that direction.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Most likely extractor fit. Not enough tension, not enough hook, loose under firing pin stop and "clocking.' Empty doesn't get out of the gun and the slide closes on it. Is that what you are seeing?

Sounds like exactly what I'm seeing. Is this a home fix or do I need a gunsmith?

Scroll down through this Sticky at the top of this forum to the part about stovepipes.

Could be the extractor just needs a little more bend in it to increase tension.
See this about that:

Could be clocking.

Could be one leg is broke off the ejector and it is rotating in the frame when the case rim hits it.

Could be your gun has an 18.5 pound recoil spring in it and your WWB loads are too weak to cycle the slide fully or fast enough. A 16# standard power spring would probably fix that.

If it has a plastic Shok-Buff recoil buffer on the spring guide, take it off and throw it away.
